Unit Description:
The position of Breast Fellow was created in **** to promote the development of the RWH/RMH Breast Service.
The position is jointly funded by RMH and RWH.
The RMH/RWH Breast Service manages over 400 new breast cancer cases.
Together with The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre , the unit forms Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre Breast Tumour Stream.
This single Tumour Stream manages over 700 current cases of Breast cancer each year.
The Fellow is involved with many aspects of the Breast Tumour Stream as well as General Surgery at both RMH and the Women's.
About the role:




The purpose of this role is to facilitate the seamless care of breast patients across the Royal Melbourne and Royal Women's Hospitals and create a bridge with the Peter Mac Callum Breast Fellow.
The Fellow is responsible for the overall management of breast surgical patients at RMH and the Women's.
This requires close cooperation with the Breast unit registrar, and various staff of both hospitals.
The Fellow is involved in most of the Breast Service lists at the Royal Women's Hospital.
There are 12 lists every 4 week cycle.
6 of these are breast surgery with some oncoplastic work.
6 are dedicated breast plastic surgery.
The Fellow works with the Breast surgery registrar to cover operating lists at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
There are around 10 Breast or Endocrine lists and 3 Plastic surgical lists for reconstruction.
The Fellow is involved in many of these lists
About You:
Registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (for international Medical Graduates)
MBBS or equivalent tertiary qualifications
Post graduate qualification in General Surgery (FRACS) or equivalent
Ability to work in a team
Well-developed communication and presentation skills.
