Surf Life Saving South Australia (SLSSA) is the peak organisation for water safety and lifesaving services in South Australia and is affiliated with Surf Life Saving Australia.
We aim to achieve zero preventable deaths in South Australian waters and build connected, inclusive communities.
SLSSA is responsible for the governance, development, promotion and administration of surf lifesaving throughout South Australia and has the responsibility for servicing its 9,000 members and 23 clubs.
Position Scope:
The Community Engagement Project Officer will work as part of the Community Programs team.
They will demonstrate strong drive and commitment to engaging targeted at-risk groups including Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities and First Nations participants in inclusive community programs.
The Community Engagement Project Officer will collaborate with and support other departments across Surf Life Saving SA (SLSSA) to assist with the effective delivery of inclusive programs that increase water safety awareness and participation across the state.
This role contributes to the successful planning, implementation, and reporting of large-scale water safety programs, collectively reaching thousands of participants each year.
In addition to supporting these programs, the Project Officer will ensure a strong focus on inclusivity for all community-based initiatives.

Key Areas of Responsibility
Community Inclusion and Engagement Programs
Supporting the coordination and administration of CALD initiatives including International Student Programs.
Supporting First Nations engagement initiatives, including the Indigenous Surf Sports Program and outreach activities such as APY Lands delivery where required.




Engage and build trusted relationships with multicultural and First Nations communities, supporting culturally safe and inclusive pathways into programs and services.
Assisting with bookings, staffing, logistics and participant transitions.
Working collaboratively with community groups, multicultural organisations, councils and pool operators.
Supporting culturally inclusive engagement practices in program delivery.
Assisting with promotional activities and community engagement initiatives.
Facilitating pathways for participants into SLSSA clubs and ongoing involvement.
General Community Program Support
Supporting Surf Babies, community water safety sessions and other open water or pool-based initiatives.
Maintaining accurate and up-to-date databases for reporting and compliance purposes.
Providing administrative support to instructors, assistants and volunteers.
Contributing to the development and implementation of new community initiatives.
Undertaking other reasonable duties as required.
VACSWIM Administration
Coordinating the administration of VACSWIM in accordance with funding agreements and program guidelines.
Managing enrolments, data entry, timetables and staffing logistics using systems such as GameDay and Deputy.
Supporting recruitment, onboarding and communication with instructors, assistants and volunteers.
Providing high-quality customer service to families, schools and participants.
Coordinating metro and regional program logistics, including travel arrangements where required.
Ensuring accurate record keeping and reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
Supporting program inductions, activations and peak delivery periods.
Assisting with continuous improvement and operational efficiencies within VACSWIM.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
Demonstrated administrative experience.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills,



including the ability to engage confidently with individuals and groups.
Confident public speaking and presentation skills, with the ability to deliver information clearly to diverse audiences.
Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities during peak program periods.
High attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database management systems.
Experience in community programs or large-scale seasonal program delivery.
Experience working with CALD and/or First Nations communities.
Desirable:
Qualification in Community Services, Sport & Recreation, Human Services or related field.
Experience in not for profit, aquatic or sporting sectors.
Understanding of SLSSA club structures and community pathways.

Hours of work:
The position is full time (18-month Fixed Term Contract), and the nature of the role requires some out of hours and weekend work in peak community program times.
Special Requirements:
The successful applicant will be required to understand and comply with SLSSA's and SLSA's Child Safe Policies and practices.
They will also need to satisfy the requirements of a Working with Children's Check and National Police Check and have a current driver's license.
There may be further requirements for the successful applicant to be trained and educated in other relevant areas to ensure the appropriate leadership and skills – specifically, be a holder of or willing to obtain Community Surf Rescue Certificate or Bronze Medallion, AUSTSWIM certificate, Provide First Aid certificate.
