About New Porgera
New Porgera Limited (NPL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea and owns the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province.
NPL is a joint venture between Barrick Gold Corporation, Zijin Mining, and the Papua New Guinea Government, combining global mining expertise with a shared commitment to responsible resource development and long-term value creation for Papua Recent Guinea.
The Porgera Gold Mine will employ nearly 3,000 Papua New Guineans at full production and, over its 30-year operating history, has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea's total annual exports, making it one of the country's most significant economic assets.
About the role
We are currently seeking an experienced Alternate Manager – Technical Services to join Porgera responsible for leading the integration and coordination of engineering, geotechnical, surveying, projects and a strong focus on planning horizons from daily through to LOM for both our underground and open pit teams to enable production teams to safely achieve tonnes and grade production goals.
You will be responsible for ensuring the design and management of planning systems for safe ore recovery, developing and optimising processes, procedures, coaching and developing your team to ensure consistent performance and compliance with statutory requirements, industry standards, and global best practise.
There will be a key focus on ensuring your technical team is working closely in partnership with Underground and Open Pit operations ensuring explicit communication of plans, understanding of NPL's priorities, working as One Team, aligning mine plans with production targets and adopting them to changing conditions and business demands.
The role combines strategic thinking for long-term planning,
supporting monthly and annual budget and forecasting process for the mine as well as managing own team's budget and performance and embedding a continuous improvement mindset.
The tracking of performance to plan and ability to pivot effectively is essential, analysing mining operations to identify timely interventions that enhance performance.
You will model safety behaviours and coach and develop your team, working with your team to assess and manage risk.
NPL operates in a complex environment that requires the successful applicant to be a self-starter, with strong ability in delivery to support the mines successful operation whilst coordinating the efforts of your team members to complete projects according to plan in a timely and safe manner.

The successful applicant must have extensive hard rock (ideally Au), underground and open pit experience combined with strong team leadership, stakeholder relations, operational and strategic mining operational knowledge ideally in a developing nation.
Prior knowledge of Papua New Guinea's regulatory environment and community dynamic is highly desirable.
You will lead the team in line with NPL policies and standards whilst measuring and monitoring the functions performance, moving towards world-class practices and with a continuous improvement mindset.
You will possess strong expertise across the Deswik suite of applications, with demonstrated proficiency being a critical requirement.
This capability is essential to support the planning, design, scheduling, and optimisation activities delivered by the team.
You will have demonstrated experience in long-term planning (LTP), supported by underground operational experience complete, and hold a Mine Manager's Certificate (preferred).
This combination will demonstrate a strong understanding of the underground operating environment.
