About the role
Gorski Engineering is seeking a talentedMechanical Design Engineerto join our engineering team at our Head Office inSomerton, Victoria.
This is a full‐time, hands‐on role suited to an engineer who enjoys seeing projects through from initial measurement and design to production support and final manufacture.
Working closely with customers, sales and production, you will be responsible for designing and documenting custom truck body and trailer builds while ensuring every project is delivered accurately, efficiently and to the highest standard.
You'll become part of an experienced team ofsix Mechanical Engineers, working collaboratively on a diverse range of custom heavy vehicle projects.
What you'll be doing
Inspect, measure and assess incoming truck chassis and trailers, preparing detailed job sheets, engineering documentation and manufacturing data to support the production of custom truck bodies and trailers.
Design and develop truck and trailer systems, components and engineering drawings, maintaining drawing databases, revision control and accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) to support efficient manufacturing.
Collaborate with customers, sales, production and suppliers to confirm build specifications, resolve technical queries, coordinate job‐specific laser cutting requirements and ensure projects are delivered accurately and on schedule.
Ensure all engineering documentation, designs and manufacturing information comply with Australian Design Rules (ADRs), relevant standards and internal quality and safety requirements.
Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance designs, engineering processes and manufacturing efficiency, while providing technical support and guidance to workshop and production teams.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
Minimum 5 years' experience in a Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Design Engineering role, preferably within the heavy vehicle, transport or manufacturing industries.
Proficiency in AutoCAD is essential; experience with SolidWorks will be highly regarded.
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, engineering documentation, quality systems and production workflows.
Excellent analytical, problem‐solving and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to work collaboratively across engineering, sales, production and customer‐facing teams.
Knowledge of Australian Design Rules (ADRs), heavy vehicle design and manufacturing compliance will be highly regarded.
