Our Families Our Way (OFOW) plays a key role in delivering culturally safe and family-centred case management to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families involved in the Child Protection system under Delegated Authority arrangements.
The position is responsible for supporting the safety, wellbeing, permanency, and cultural identity of children while ensuring decisions are made in their best interests and in accordance with legislative requirements.
Working from a strengths-based and culturally responsive framework, the Practitioner partners with children, families, carers, Elders, and support networks to develop and implement case plans that promote stability, strengthen family relationships, and maintain meaningful connections to family, community, culture, and Country.
Through advocacy, case coordination, and culturally informed practice, the Practitioner ensures Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families are supported to have their voices heard, their rights upheld, and their cultural needs embedded within all aspects of planning and decision-making.
Key responsibilities
Build and maintain strong, respectful relationships with children, young people, carers, families, and their support networks.
Exercise delegated Child Safety functions in accordance with legislative requirements, organisational policies, and the Delegated Authority Agreement.
Undertake comprehensive case management to support children's safety, wellbeing, permanency, and cultural identity.
Develop, implement, monitor, and review case plans in partnership with children, families, carers, Child Safety, and relevant stakeholders.
Support safe reunification, kinship care, and permanent care arrangements where appropriate, ensuring children's best interests remain the primary focus.
Advocate for the rights, voices,



and self-determination of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families, ensuring culturally safe and responsive practice.
Coordinate and participate in case planning meetings, placement reviews, cultural planning, and multidisciplinary meetings to achieve positive outcomes for children.
Monitor placement stability and provide ongoing support to carers and families to strengthen relationships and reduce placement disruption.
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential case records, assessments, reports, and documentation in accordance with legislative and organisational requirements.
Collaborate with Child Safety, community organisations, education, health, and other service providers to ensure coordinated service delivery and holistic support for children and families.
Promote children's connection to family, community, language, culture, and Country through culturally informed practice and meaningful family engagement.
Identify risks, respond to child protection concerns, and implement appropriate strategies to ensure children's safety and wellbeing.
What You'll Bring
Demonstrated commitment to improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people, families, and communities.
Experience in child protection, statutory case management, out-of-home care, delegated authority, or a related human services workplace.
Sound understanding of the Child Protection Act **** (Qld), the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principle, and contemporary child protection practices.




Knowledge of permanency planning, reunification, kinship care, cultural planning, and placement stability for children in care.
Demonstrated ability to undertake case management, including completing assessments, developing and reviewing case plans, managing risk, and coordinating services to achieve positive outcomes for children.
Strong ability to build respectful and effective relationships with children, families, carers, Elders, Child Safety, and other government and non-government stakeholders.
Demonstrated advocacy skills to ensure the voices, rights, and cultural needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families are represented in decision-making.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
High-level organisational skills with the ability to manage a diverse caseload, competing priorities, and statutory timeframes.
Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare professional case notes, court-related documentation, assessments, case plans, and reports.
Demonstrated commitment to culturally safe, trauma-informed, child-centred, and strengths-based practice.
Understanding of professional ethics, confidentiality, legislative obligations, and mandatory reporting responsibilities.
Mandatory Requirements
Current Queensland Driver Licence.
Current Working with Children Check (Blue Card), or the ability to obtain one.
Current National Police Check, or the ability to obtain one.
Ability to obtain and maintain all relevant screening, licensing, and compliance requirements.
Relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Human Services, Community Services, Psychology, Behavioural Science, Social Science, or a related discipline (highly desirable).
