About the role
Mater Hospital Brisbane is seeking an
Operating Theatre Assistant
to join our
Perioperative Service
s team in
one permanent full-time and one permanent part-time (0.6 FTE) prospect.
Based at our
South Brisbane
campus, you'll be part of one of Queensland's leading tertiary hospitals, where our state-of-the-art operating theatres support a diverse range of surgical specialties and some of the state's most complex procedures.
Working alongside highly skilled multidisciplinary teams, you'll play an integral role in delivering safe, efficient theatre services while building your career in a collaborative, patient-focused environment.
As an Operating Theatre Assistant, you'll provide essential support to the perioperative team, ensuring operating theatres are prepared, maintained and ready to deliver safe, efficient surgical care.
Your responsibilities will include:
Prepare operating theatres and equipment for surgical procedures according to clinical requirements.
Assist with the safe manual handling and positioning of patients, equipment and supplies.
Clean and maintain operating theatres and equipment between procedures, following infection prevention and control standards.
Support surgical teams across adult, paediatric and obstetric operating theatres.
Work collaboratively with nurses, medical staff and fellow theatre assistants to ensure smooth theatre operations.
Contribute to a safe workplace by adhering to Workplace Health and Safety policies and organisational procedures.
Participate in mandatory education,
performance development and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
About you
You're a proactive and reliable team player who thrives in a fast-paced perioperative environment and is committed to delivering high-quality support that contributes to outstanding patient outcomes.
You will bring:
Demonstrated experience working as an Operating Theatre Assistant within a healthcare setting.
Certificate III in Health Care Support (Operating Theatre Practice), or equivalent, or willingness to obtain.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Ability to prioritise competing tasks and remain organised in a dynamic clinical environment.
Sound understanding of infection prevention, workplace health and safety, and relevant legislation relating to the role.
Commitment to maintaining patient privacy, confidentiality and professional standards.
