Medical Officer for Clinical Trials (0.8)
The team at Doherty Clinical Trials (DCT) are driven to expand the horizons of early phase clinical trials, human challenge trials and medical research through the delivery of high quality and safe clinical trials. We foster collaboration with stakeholders and value the essential role of clinical trial volunteers, to enable groundbreaking, innovative medical research that will translate to vaccines and therapies, especially for infectious diseases.
The Medical Officer will oversee multiple clinical trials of varying complexity, with overlapping timelines and may be required to be involved in all aspects of clinical management throughout the lifecycle of each clinical trial.
The Role
The Medical Officer (MO) is responsible for medical activities at DCT to support the implementation of early phase clinical trials. This role requires oversight across the entire clinical trial lifecycle, from pre-study activities (protocol review etc), patient screening and oversight of study activities, dosing, monitoring for and managing adverse events, through to the close out of the clinical trial database.
The Medical Officer will work closely with the Medical Director, the Clinical Operations Director and other clinical and project management staff to ensure that participant safety remains paramount, with full compliance with GCP, study protocols and the organisation's standard operating procedures.
About You
To be successful in this position you will have excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated relevant clinical experience, ideally in a research or clinical trial setting. In addition, you will have well developed judgment and decision-making skills, with the ability to prioritise conflicting demands while meeting deadlines.



You will also be a team player with the ability to support others when required.
You will possess:
Current medical registration with AHPRA (minimum General Registration)
Medical indemnity insurance
Current ALS certificate
Minimum of two years' post-graduate clinical experience
Demonstrated interest in research and clinical trials
Understanding of participant care within a clinical trial/research setting
Understanding of early phase clinical research
Additional desirable attributes are listed below:
Post Graduate Medical Qualification
GCP Certificate
Clinical experience in infectious diseases and/or immunology
Experience in medical research and/or medical industry
Clinical trial experience
Existing Investigator accreditation from the IAOCR, or a desire to complete this qualification in the future /
This is a permanent part-time position (0.8 FTE). The successful applicant will generally work weekdays to support the delivery of clinical trials. From time to time, flexibility to work evenings, weekends and other after-hours periods will be required to support study activities, participant dosing and trial requirements.
As a permanent member of the DCT team, you will have the chance to build long-term relationships with colleagues, contribute to the ongoing development of our clinical research capability and play a key role in delivering high quality clinical trials.
