Finance Manager – Full-time or 4 days per week

Our client is a highly regarded national peak body with a strong reputation across Australia's Jewish community.
It is seeking a capable, commercially minded Finance Manager to take ownership of its day-to‐day financial operations while contributing to longer‐term financial planning and organisational sustainability.
Reporting directly to the CEO, this is an opportunity to apply your financial expertise within a respected, purpose‐driven organisation whose work has national reach and impact.
The successful candidate will bring experience from either the accounting profession or an industry‐based finance role.
You will be equally comfortable managing reconciliations, payments and payroll as you are developing budgets, preparing Board reports and advising the CEO on financial strategy.
This is not a purely strategic or supervisory appointment.
It is a genuinely hands‐on role requiring someone willing to remain closely involved in the everyday finance function while providing sound commercial insights and strategic guidance.
The Role
You will take responsibility for the organisation's financial management, compliance and reporting, working closely with the CEO, Board and department heads.
Your responsibilities will include:
Managing the organisation's end‐to‐end finance function.
Preparing annual budgets, forecasts and cash‐flow reporting.
Producing accurate management accounts, financial statements and Board reports.
Managing payroll, accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations and regular payments.
Maintaining appropriate financial policies, procedures and internal controls.
Coordinating audit, taxation, grant‐reporting and regulatory requirements.




Managing foreign exchange transactions and international fund transfers.
Supporting department heads to manage their budgets effectively.
Providing the CEO and Board with clear financial analysis and strategic advice.
Identifying opportunities to improve systems, processes and reporting.
Liaising with auditors, banks, grant providers, donors and other external stakeholders.
About You
Ideally you will be a CA‐ or CPA‐qualified accountant with sound financial management experience.
Your background may have been developed within an accounting practice—potentially at Manager level—or in an industry, community or not‐for‐profit finance position.
You will bring:
Experience from the accounting profession or an industry‐based finance role.
Strong end‐to‐end accounting capability, including budgeting, payroll, reconciliations, payments, reporting and cash‐flow management.
The willingness and ability to personally undertake transactional and operational finance work.
The commercial judgement to provide strategic financial advice to a CEO and Board.
A genuine connection to, or sound knowledge and understanding of, Australia's Jewish community and its organisational landscape.
Alignment with the organisation's mission, purpose and values.
Confidence communicating with senior leaders, Board members, auditors and external stakeholders.
Advanced Excel skills and the ability to use and improve financial systems.
High levels of integrity, accuracy, discretion and attention to detail.
A proactive, cooperative and solutions‐focused approach.




Applicants do not need to be Jewish.
However, given the organisation's purpose and stakeholder base, you must demonstrate an understanding of the Australian Jewish community, its institutions and sensitivities, together with a genuine commitment to the organisation's mission.
Experience within a not‐for‐profit, community, education, membership‐based or grant‐funded environment will be highly regarded but is not essential.
This experience may have been gained directly or through advising comparable clients within an accounting practice.
