Principal Java Software Engineer (Developer)

About the Opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists for experienced Principal Java Software Engineers to support a Federal Government agency responsible for Australia's maritime safety and emergency response capabilities.
Working on the agency's mission-critical
NEXUS
platform, you'll contribute to systems that support maritime and aviation search and rescue operations, as well as pollution response activities. You'll join a highly experienced development team responsible for supporting, maintaining and enhancing enterprise-scale Java and AWS cloud solutions that underpin operational services across Australia.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop and maintain enterprise-grade Java applications and backend services
Develop and support AWS cloud-based solutions and integrations
Build and maintain RESTful and SOAP web services
Design and implement Oracle database solutions, including data modelling and stored procedures
Develop and maintain web-based user interfaces using ReactJS, HTML and CSS
Produce detailed technical documentation and solution design artefacts
Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices using Jenkins, Git and Maven
Perform software releases, testing and continuous improvement activities
Provide technical advice and support to senior technology stakeholders
Participate in a shared on-call support roster for critical production systems (historically very low call volume)
Skills & Experience Required
Minimum 8 years' experience developing enterprise Java applications
Strong experience with Java, Spring/Spring Boot, JPA and Hibernate
Experience developing RESTful and SOAP APIs
Strong Oracle Database experience including SQL, PL/SQL and data modelling
Experience with AWS services including EC2, Lambda, API Gateway, S3, SQS and CloudFormation
Experience with ReactJS, HTML and CSS
Robust understanding of Git, Maven, Jenkins and CI/CD practices
Linux/Unix administration and Bash scripting experience
Demonstrated commitment to software engineering best practices, automated testing and technical documentation
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Willingness to participate in an on-call roster supporting a critical operational application
