As we continue to expand our courses, campuses and student numbers, we need additional senior academic leader to continue this drive in growth and quality.
As part of a major reorganisation of the Academic Team at PIA, we are looking for exceptional academic leader to support our expanding range of courses, student numbers and campuses.
The appointment will be at an Associate Professorial or Professorial level depending on qualifications and experience.
The Deputy Dean (Education and Research) provides strategic leadership across the Institute's education and research portfolios, with a strong focus on academic standards, pedagogical excellence, staff capability uplift and research quality.
The role ensures alignment with institutional priorities, regulatory frameworks, and sector best practice while driving continuous improvement in learning design, teaching quality, student support, and research performance.

What you'll do:
In this role, the responsibilities include the following:
1. Academic Standards, Quality and Governance
Lead the development, implementation, and oversight of Academic Quality Standards across learning, teaching, and research in compliance with TEQSA standards, institutional policies, and accreditation requirements;
Drive a culture of continuous improvement, data-informed decision-making, and evidence-based practice;
Oversee academic assurance processes including course reviews, benchmarking, and risk management.
2. Learning and Teaching Excellence
Drive excellence in teaching practice through evidence-based pedagogy and scholarship of learning and teaching (SoTL);
Manage frameworks for teaching quality, peer review, and student feedback enhancement;
Lead initiatives to improve student engagement, retention, and success outcomes;
Champion the effective integration of educational technologies, AI tools, contemporary learning design and digital platforms consistent with strategic direction;
Promote innovation in assessment design, including authentic and work-integrated learning approaches.
3. Academic Skills and Learning Support
Oversee development of academic skills programs that support student success;
Lead institutional academic staff development including pedagogy and teaching capability, digital literacy and educational technology proficiency, research capability and supervision skills.
4. Research Governance and Ethics
Oversee robust research governance frameworks, ensuring compliance with ethical standards and regulatory requirements;
Provide leadership in driving research culture across the Institute;
Monitor and enhance research performance using data-driven insights and metrics;
Set and track research targets;
Develop strategies to improve research quality, impact, and reputation.
5. Grants and Industry Partnerships
Drive strategic growth in research funding, grants, and industry partnerships;
Support academic staff in developing competitive grant applications and collaborative projects;
Facilitate partnerships with industry, government, and community to enhance impact and innovation;
Promote translational research and alignment with industry priorities.
6. Academic Culture
Assist the Dean in building a culture that fosters a collaborative,
inclusive and high-performing academic culture focused on innovation, scholarship, accountability, continuous improvement and personal growth;
Promote staff wellbeing, psychological safety and collegiality while maintaining high expectations for performance.
Qualifications and Experience:
Doctoral qualifications in appropriate discipline, or master's level qualifications with extensive professional experience;
Experience in most aspects of the role for which you are applying;
Evidence of ongoing personal continuing career development and scholarship;
Active in contemporary research;
Effective higher education leadership;
Experience and ability to drive the Institute's cultural direction;
A team player ethos; and
Commitment to team culture, equity and diversity principles, and Work Health and Safety.
Relevant current professional memberships and registrations; and
Understanding of Higher Education regulatory requirements, including the ESOS Act and the Threshold Standards
