Advising on policy settings (including with reference to economic policy) to support the efficient and effective operation of the publicly funded training system.
Engaging with training and economic data, providing high level and influential strategic advice with a long‐term view that supports the government to future‐prove key policy settings for the training and higher education sectors.
Preparing clear and well‐structured written and verbal briefings on policy matters, ensuring information is communicated accurately and comprehensively.
Leading coordination and development of policy advice on specific Vocational Education and Training issues or projects, ensuring alignment with organisational goals.
The Team
The position of Senior Policy Officer (Economic Policy) forms a part of the Policy & Strategy branch within the Skills and TAFE group.
Policy Design and Development: Formulates and communicates public policy options and recommendations; Develops a clear narrative for the policies and business cases including explicit problem definition and objectives.
Influence and Persuasion:



Gains agreement to proposals and ideas; Builds support for ideas to ensure buy‐in and ownership; Uses chains of indirect influence to achieve outcomes; Involves experts or other third parties to strengthen case.
Communicate with Impact: Makes a positive impression on others and comes across with credibility; Communicates in a manner that is clear, fluent and holds the listeners' attention; Able to deal with difficult and sensitive topics and questions.
A tertiary qualification in economics or a related discipline would be highly regarded.
