After-School Program Instructor – Teach Kids Magic in Primary Schools
Melbourne Magic Academy partners with primary schools across Eastern Melbourne to run fun, engaging after-school magic classes for kids aged 5–12. Our mission is to deliver a program that is extraordinary fun and makes great kids appear.
Through magic, we help children build confidence, character, and communication skills. Our program teaches the 8 Traits of a True Magician: Respectful, Prepared, Enthusiastic, Confident, Humble, Creative, Authentic, and Giving.

About the role:
The Magic Academy is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join our team as an After‐School Magic Class Instructor. As our programs continue to grow across Melbourne, we are looking for additional Magic Leaders to help us bring the magic to even more students.
As an instructor, you will have the exciting task of teaching our Magic Academy curriculum to children attending our programs at primary schools in the Eastern Suburbs – including Glen Waverley, Box Hill North, and Blackburn North.
No prior magic experience is required, as we will provide comprehensive paid training to equip you with the necessary skills, lesson plans, support materials, and equipment.
If the kids can learn the tricks, so can you!
With competitive hourly pay and flexible work arrangements – this role is great to combine with other part‐time commitments, coaching jobs, or your studies. We are looking for instructors who have availability to work 2‐3 days per week from Monday to Thursday each week of the school term (not including public holidays).
Expect 3‐6 hours of work per week, with the option to increase your hours in the future.
Sessions typically run from 1:30pm–5:00pm or 3:00pm–5:00pm, depending on the school.
Responsibilities:
Teach Magic: No prior magic experience is required or expected.
Deliver our one‐of‐a‐kind magic curriculum. Demonstrate and guide students in learning magic tricks, providing clear instructions and feedback to ensure their understanding.
Create a Fun and Welcoming Environment:
Foster a warm and inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages children to express themselves, build friendships, and develop confidence.
Assist and Support Students:
Encourage and support students individually or in groups, addressing their questions, concerns, and challenges.
Manage Classroom Dynamics:
Maintain a positive and safe learning environment, managing behaviour and ensuring that all students are engaged, focused, and respectful of one another.
Communicate with Parents/Guardians:
Maintain regular and effective communication with parents/guardians at pick‐up time,
addressing any concerns, and sharing exciting moments from the magic classes.
Equipment and Inventory:
Organise and maintain provided magic supplies and equipment, ensuring they are in positive working condition and readily available for use during classes.
Qualifications:
Previous experience working in education or after school care is ideal, but not essential
– training is provided.
No prior magic or performing experience necessary.
Passion for working with kids
, loads of energy, and a love for having fun!
Punctuality and reliability:
Dependability in attending scheduled classes and meetings, arriving on time, and completing assigned tasks in a timely manner.
Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage with kids as well as effectively communicate with parents/guardians.
Strong team player with excellent problem‐solving skills and a can‐do, positive attitude.
Patience to work with children of different ages, abilities, and backgrounds, adapting teaching methods to meet their individual needs.
Background check: Willingness to complete, or successful completion of a current Police Check and Working With Children Check / WWCC, or provide a copy of your Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration card.
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older to be eligible for this position.
Australian citizenship is required for this position.
