Structural Steel Project Coordinator / Contracts Administrator
About the Role (Barra Steel VIC PTY LTD)
The successful candidate will coordinate subcontractor pricing, site works, project programming, value management and monthly progress claims. With a strong focus on artificial intelligence inception.
You will help ensure each project is properly planned before arriving on site, subcontractor scopes are clearly defined, site labour and access equipment are programmed efficiently, and monthly claim values are agreed with our clients.
Key Responsibilities
Subcontractor Pricing and Procurement
Prepare and issue request-for-quotation packages for live structural steel projects.
Obtain competitive quotations from rigging and steel erection subcontractors.
Obtain separate quotations for on-site steel set-out and site boiler making works.
Clearly define subcontractor scopes, exclusions, responsibilities and programme requirements.
Review and compare subcontractor quotations.
Identify gaps, qualifications and potential additional costs before subcontractors are engaged.
Coordinate site inspections and tender meetings with subcontractors.
Assist with preparing purchase orders and subcontract agreements.
Site Programming and Coordination
Develop and maintain programmes for structural steel erection and on-site boilermaking works.
Coordinate rigging crews, site boilermakers, cranes, EWPs, scissor lifts and other access equipment.
Confirm that labour, lifting equipment and access equipment are available when require including on hire and off hire.
Coordinate site mobilisation, deliveries and erection sequences with site supervisors.




Work with clients and site managers to confirm site access and work areas.
Monitor site progress against the agreed programme.
Identify delays, access restrictions and programme risks.
Assist the project team in resolving site coordination issues.
Value Management
Work closely with Barra Steel's shop detailers and project team to identify value management opportunities.
Review connection details, member arrangements and erection methodology.
Identify opportunities to reduce:
on-site welding;
difficult site connections;
EWP and access equipment requirements;
temporary works;
double handling; and
Assist with developing practical connection and erection solutions that improve fabrication and installation efficiency.
Communicate proposed changes to clients, engineers and project stakeholders for approval.
Progress Claims and Commercial Administration
Work with clients and head contractors to agree monthly progress claim amounts as determined by Barra Steel management.
Assist with project cost tracking and forecasting.
Project Administration
Maintain project correspondence and commercial records.
Track drawings, shop drawing approvals, RFIs, variations and site instructions.
Prepare clear written correspondence to clients and subcontractors.
Attend project meetings when required.




Provide regular updates to management regarding programme, cost and commercial risks.
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have experience in one or more of the following areas:
structural steel fabrication or installation;
construction contracts administration;
commercial construction;
project coordination;
steel erection or rigging;
site supervision;
quantity surveying; or
subcontractor procurement.
You will also have:
strong organisational and planning skills;
the ability to coordinate multiple live projects;
commercial awareness and confidence discussing project costs;
good written and verbal communication skills;
the ability to read structural drawings and shop drawings;
confidence dealing with clients, subcontractors and site teams;
strong attention to detail;
valuable Microsoft Excel, Word and email skills; and
a practical understanding of how construction work is delivered on site.
Experience with structural steel, cranes, rigging, EWPs, shop detailing or progress claims will be highly regarded.
