, supporting one adult man to live his best life at home and in the community. We are seeking an exceptional Disability Support Worker to become part of our dedicated team within his personalized day program activities here in the Northern Suburbs.
This is
not
your typical disability support role.
Every day is different, filled with community participation, creativity, outdoor activities, learning opportunities and running a small micro business.
We are looking for someone who brings energy, ideas, patience and enthusiasm to every shift. Smiles and laughter make every day a great day!
Position
Disability Support Worker – Individualized Adult Day Program
Hours
Day Program Hours:
9:00 am – 5:00 pm - 2 shifts per week
Opportunity for additional hours by joining our residential support team, including
overnight sleepover shifts
. Opportunity for additional hours with weekend work when available (non adult day program hours - community access - fun in the sun time!)
About the Person You Will Support
You will be supporting an adult man who has:
Autism
Epilepsy
Complex support needs
Behaviors of Concern
He enjoys structure, routine, meaningful activities and spending time with people who are positive, calm, patient and genuinely enjoy his company.
What You'll Be Doing
Every day is planned around meaningful participation rather than simply filling time.
Activities may include:
Community access and social participation and building capacity to learn and be a valued community member building connections and making new friends
Walking and outdoor adventures
Ball games and physical activities
Cooking and baking
Arts, crafts and practical projects
Supporting a small micro business where products are created, marketed and sold
Encouraging independence and decision making
Supporting communication and engagement,
Providing personal care as required
Recording daily progress and observations
We Are Looking For Someone Who:
Has experience supporting adults in an Adult Day Program or Community Participation setting.
Has demonstrated experience supporting people with:
Autism
Epilepsy
Complex support needs
Behaviors of Concern
Understands Positive Behavior Support and can confidently implement Behavior Support Plans. (Training provided in our plan)
Has worked collaboratively with:
Occupational Therapists
Other Allied Health Professionals
Can build rapport and trust quickly with people who have limited verbal communication.
Understands sensory processing needs and adjusts their support accordingly.
Enjoys being active and getting out into the community. Can deliver safe community access for all.
Is creative and brings current ideas for meaningful activities.
Has excellent observation skills and can recognize subtle changes in behavior, mood and well being.
Is calm, patient, reliable and emotionally resilient.
Enjoys working as part of a close-knit professional team.
Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
NDIS Worker Orientation Module completed
Current Victorian Driver License
Current First Aid & CPR Certificate
Medication Administration competency
Experience supporting people with epilepsy (Midazolam experience highly regarded) Clear understanding of Epilepsy and Epilepsy management plans.
Manual handing certificate
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to write case notes and to document accurately using electronic systems (training provided in our system)
