Working alongside our Sydney-based team of passionate high achievers, you'll join a quick-growing technology business where things rarely stay the same for long - and if you're smart, caring, and ambitious, you'll be in outstanding company.Meet the CORTO Accounting Frontend teamMeet the CORTO Accounting Frontend teamYou'll lead the Frontend Engineering team responsible for building and evolving CORTO's legal accounting products.This team sits at the intersection of greenfield AI-driven features and the re-imagining of core accounting workflows - including timesheets, billing, payments, and financial reporting.We operate in a low-bureaucracy, high-ownership environment, where engineers are trusted to shape both the how and the what.
As we scale, we're investing in stronger technical leadership to ensure we maintain speed without sacrificing quality or cohesion.What you'll doAs Frontend Team Lead, you'll be responsible for the health, velocity, and technical direction of the frontend team.This is a hands-on leadership role.
You'll split your time between:Supporting and growing engineersDriving delivery and executionSetting technical direction and standardsYou'll work closely with the Principal Engineer (currently the existing lead) to evolve the architecture and long-term strategy,
while taking ownership of day-to-day team leadership and delivery outcomes.Lead the TeamManage, mentor, and grow a team of frontend engineersRun regular 1:1s, provide feedback, and support career developmentFoster a strong, collaborative, and accountable team cultureOwn Frontend DeliveryWork with Product and Design to plan, scope, and prioritise workRemove blockers and keep the team focused on outcomesDrive Technical StandardsEstablish and enforce best practices across React, TypeScript, and frontend architectureMaintain high standards for performance, accessibility, and code qualityGuide decisions around state management, data fetching, and UI architecturePartner with backend engineers to ensure clean API design and integrationWork closely with Design to deliver high-quality user experiencesAlign with Principal Engineers and other leads on broader system directionScale the Frontend FunctionImprove development workflows, CI/CD, and release processesContribute to hiring and onboarding new engineersHelp evolve the team structure as we growTo make this happen, you will:Help lead development of applications using React, Next.js, Electron, Tailwind and TypeScriptOwn and evolve our frontend architectureImprove performance, reliability, and maintainability across the codebaseIntroduce and refine patterns for state management, data fetching, and component designDrive better observability and debugging practices for frontend applicationsWhat you'll bring6+ years of frontend engineering experienceStrong expertise in React and TypeScriptExperience with modern React frameworks (Next.js preferred)Proven experience leading or mentoring engineersStrong understanding of frontend architecture and scalable UI systemsExperience working in cross-functional product teamsAbility to balance technical quality with delivery pragmatismNice to haveExperience with ElectronExposure to AI or data-heavy applicationsFamiliarity with building or scaling team processes from scratchExperience with design systems or component librariesYou are the type of person whoEnjoys helping other engineers succeed as much as writing codeBrings structure and clarity to ambiguous problemsBalances speed and quality without being dogmaticCommunicates clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholdersTakes ownership and follows throughCORTO is an inclusive, people-first company committed to breaking down institutional barriers that keep people from reaching their potential.
