is a leading Australian exporter specialising in oaten hay and cereal straw export to global markets.
We are seeking a practical, hands-on operator to join our team in a hybrid role that supports both our Victorian grower network and our export packing operations in Avoca Victoria.
About the Role
This position operates across field, supply, and site-based operations, ensuring a consistent flow of high-quality hay (and straw) from paddock through to export processing.
You will work directly with growers while also contributing on-site in quality control, inventory management, and some logistics coordination.
This is not a purely office-based role—it is suited to someone comfortable working in the paddock and in an operational workplace.
Key Responsibilities
Hay Procurement & Grower Engagement
Build and maintain strong relationships with growers
Source, test, evaluate, document and purchase hay /straw in line with export specifications.
Inspect crops to assess yield, quality potential, paddock contamination etc.
Identify and develop new grower supply opportunities
Quality Control (Site-Based)
Assess incoming hay and straw against purchase specifications and assign into grades
Monitor quality indicators including moisture, colour, stem thickness, and any contamination
Work with operations staff to maintain export-quality standards
Supply & Logistics Coordination
Assist with planning and coordinating delivery of hay to site
Support scheduling and supply flow to meet processing requirements
Work closely with management on supply planning
Operations & Administration
Assist with hay stocktakes and inventory tracking
Maintain accurate grower, purchase, and product records
Support general site functions as required
About You
Background in agriculture, cropping, forage, or a related industry
Practical experience with hay or fodder production and quality assessment
A self-starter with a strong work ethic and a natural drive to stay productive
Ability to negotiate commercially sound, mutually beneficial outcomes with growers under management guidance.
Strong attention to detail and sound practical decision-making ability
Well-developed communication and organisational skills
Microsoft Excel
Cloud-based systems (e.g. Dropbox)
General record-keeping and reporting tools
Comfortable working across field, site, and office environments
Self-motivated and capable of working independently
OK to travel for up to a few days at a time.
This role requires an existing, working understanding of hay and forage systems.While further skills will be developed on the job, applicants should already be capable of making practical, common-sense quality assessments with confidence.

Remuneration
Base salary of $80,000 – $110,000 + superannuation, depending on experience
Company Ute, mobile phone, laptop, and hay testing equipment provided
Lucrative per-tonne bonus structure, with the ability and expectation to increase total earnings by up to 50% on top of the base salary (quite achievable for high performers)
