Early Childhood Educator (Short Term Contract position for 2026)

Monash Children's Centre Clayton Co-Operative – Clayton VIC

Early Childhood Educator (Short Term Contract position for 2026)

Monash Children's Centre is a not-for-profit community-based centre located on the border of Monash University Clayton campus. We are an integrated Long Day Care and Kindergarten service. We pride ourselves on our commitment to the early childhood profession. The successful applicant would be joining an experienced team who work in a collaborative and reflective manner. Our centre is friendly, supportive, diverse and has a strong focus on play-based learning. We are awarded with an Exceeding National Standards rating in all areas of our National Quality Standards review.

We have a short-term contract for part-time position available for 2026. The position is 4 days per week (32 hours per week), however alternative working arrangements are available for desirable candidates. The position has a commencement date no later than 14th September 2026 and concludes on our last working day for 2026, which is 23rd December 2026. The candidates must be available during our operating hours of 7:15am to 6:30pm. Our short-term contracts often evolve into ongoing positions in future years. All shifts are on rotating rosters with the earliest possible shift finishing at 4:30pm. It is important to note that we will not be able to meet set shift requests and require staff who have the flexibility to work within our rostering hours.

Please ensure that your cover letter or email identifies the days of the week which you are available. Applicants who are planning on returning to study and are awaiting timetables are expected to identify this in their cover letter for consideration. It is highly desirable that should you require periods of leave during the year to undertake placement, this is also noted in your application.

The successful applicant will be required to demonstrate excellent communication and interaction skills prior to interviewing.

Applicants must have centre-based experience and relevant qualifications clearly listed in a resume. The successful candidate will have a commitment to high quality practice and have a solid understanding of the program planning cycle, the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and National Quality Standards (NQS).

Conditions of employment are based on the Professional Childcare Standard 2025. Educators are rewarded with above award pay rates, additional weekly planning time, extensive career development and paid maternity and study leave entitlements as per centre policy.

Key Selection Criteria:

- Certificate III in Early Childhood Education (equivalent or greater), current Working with Children Check, up to date COVID vaccination status, anaphylaxis, first aid and CPR training
- Experience working in Early Childhood Services
- Solid understanding of child development, EYLF and NQS
- Well developed interpersonal and communication skills with both children and adults
- Excellent problem solving, self-motivation, initiative, resourcefulness and goal orientation abilities

A thorough position description is available upon email request. Applications close on Sunday, 16th August 2026.

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend the centre as a volunteer for 3 hours prior to the 31st August 2026. We find that the Volunteer time is beneficial for both the candidate and the centre. Many candidates also find this time helpful in giving them a sense of belonging, which settles the nerves, for the interview phase. Shortlisted candidates are expected to be interviewed on either Tuesday 1st September or Thursday 3rd September 2026.

We encourage applications from Aboriginal peoples, people from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds. Monash Children’s Centre is a child safe employer and is committed to the welfare of children and their protection. All potential employees and volunteers will be required to comply with our Child Safe Policy and Code of Conduct. Applicants will be required to undergo background reference checks in accordance with this policy.
