Position Description — Architectural Draftsperson

Position Purpose

The Architectural Draftsperson supports the architectural team in the design and documentation of childcare, commercial and multi-residential projects.

Working collaboratively with architects, designers, consultants and clients, the Draftsperson produces accurate, coordinated and detailed architectural documentation. The role requires strong technical ability, attention to detail and a commitment to delivering functional, thoughtful designs that meet client expectations, regulatory requirements and Colab’s quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Design and Documentation

- Assist the architectural team with schematic design, design development and construction documentation.
- Prepare accurate architectural drawings, including floor plans, elevations, sections, schedules and construction details.
- Produce and maintain project documentation using ArchiCAD and other relevant drafting tools.
- Incorporate design changes and consultant information into coordinated drawing packages.
- Review documentation for accuracy, consistency and compliance with project requirements.
- Assist in resolving technical, spatial and construction-related design issues.

Project Coordination

- Collaborate with architects, designers and consultants to coordinate project information.
- Attend site visits and undertake surveys as required to obtain information for design and documentation.
- Participate in project meetings, design reviews, client presentations and internal quality reviews.
- Maintain organised project files, drawing registers and documentation, including appropriate version control.
- Follow Colab’s project delivery processes, phase maps, task lists, templates and quality assurance checklists.

Client and Consultant Communication

- Communicate with clients,



consultants, suppliers and other project stakeholders in a professional and positive manner.
- Prepare clear and accurate written correspondence in accordance with Colab’s communication standards.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships while representing Colab through skilled conduct and presentation.

Studio Contribution

- Contribute to general studio management tasks and the efficient operation of the practice.
- Liaise with suppliers to maintain current knowledge of products, materials and construction systems.
- Participate positively in Colab’s collaborative studio culture.
- Continually develop drafting skills, software proficiency, technical knowledge and awareness of industry best practice.

Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will ideally demonstrate:

- Relevant qualifications in architectural drafting, building design or a related discipline.
- Experience preparing architectural design and construction documentation.
- Proficiency in ArchiCAD.
- Strong technical drafting skills and attention to detail.
- An understanding of Australian construction methods, building regulations and documentation standards.
- The ability to interpret consultant drawings and coordinate multidisciplinary information.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Clear written and verbal communication.
- The ability to manage priorities and work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
- Experience in childcare, commercial or multi-residential projects will be highly regarded.
