Plenty of engineering leaders step into a team that already works. Fewer get the chance to build one from the ground up.

We're partnering with a large Australian technology company with operations worldwide as it invests in the next phase of its engineering function. You'll report directly to the CTO and take a central role in defining how engineering runs across a high-volume platform relied on by millions of customers and core parts of the business.

It's a chance to shape a modern, high-performing engineering function - lifting leadership capability, sharpening delivery practices, and building an environment where teams can perform consistently at scale. The groundwork is already there. What's needed now is someone to build on it.

The Role
You'll drive the next stage of the engineering function's growth - putting in place the systems, leadership bench strength and standard needed for teams to deliver reliably at scale.

You'll partner closely with Product, Architecture and Delivery to lift engineering culture, delivery practices, governance and operational performance, while coaching Engineering Managers and technical leads into stronger, higher-performing teams.

Your success will ultimately be judged by the engineering organisation you leave behind: scalable, predictable and built to support the business as it grows.

Engineering sits at the centre of it all, delivering the reliable, scalable technology that customers and the business depend on.

About you By this stage, you're probably already leading several engineering teams and ready to take on an entire engineering organisation. Your background likely includes:

- Leading engineering organisations at scale
- Building and developing high-performing teams
- Driving engineering transformation
- Operating in cloud-native environments
- Modern approaches to software delivery
- Mentoring Engineering Managers and technical leads
- Setting engineering standards and driving operational excellence

Background in high-volume digital, retail, SaaS, payments or enterprise technology will be well regarded.

The Tech Stack
You'll be working across Microsoft Azure, Kubernetes, enterprise integrations, API-driven architecture, DevOps, CI/CD, observability and other contemporary engineering tooling.
