You bring a child-centred, trauma-informed approach and understand the complexities of family violence, including its impact on development, safety and wellbeing.

You are confident working with diverse communities, including First Nations families, LGBTIQA+ individuals and people with disability, and are committed to delivering inclusive, culturally safe practice. You’re a strong communicator who builds trusted relationships with children, families and stakeholders, and can confidently assess risk, manage complex cases and advocate for positive outcomes.

About the role

Olive’s Place is a specialist family violence program that offers safe, confidential accommodation and tailored support for adults and children who have fled their homes due to family violence. The program focuses on each person’s individual needs, strengths and goals, recognising that everyone’s experience and recovery journey is different.

Supports at Olive’s Place aim to help victim-survivors regain safety, stability and control over their lives. This includes rebuilding confidence, strengthening self‑esteem, and supporting people to make decisions that feel right for them.

The Specialist Family Violence Children’s Practitioner provides child-centred,



trauma‑informed and developmentally appropriate support to children and young people residing in refuge and transitional housing due to family violence.

The role focuses on promoting children’s safety, wellbeing, recovery and development; ensuring their voices and rights are prioritised; and delivering intensive case management in coordination with specialist family violence practitioners.

The position contributes to a whole-of-family approach and strengthens the capacity of parents and caregivers to support their children’s recovery from family violence and longer‑term stability.

The role requires strong understanding of family violence, child development, trauma impacts, the MARAM Framework and Information Sharing Schemes.

Qualifications

- A minimum degree level qualification in social work or related discipline (required) As per the minimum mandatory qualifications requirements (Royal Commission into Family Violence (2015) Recommendation 209) mandatory-minimum-qualifications specialist-family-violence-practitioners) all candidates wishing to apply for this role must be able to demonstrate that they meet minimum qualification requirements or equivalency principles, i.e. candidates are required to hold a Bachelor of Social Work or other equivalent qualification; or are considered exempt under the Policy; or have a minimum of 5 years relevant professional experience; or a related qualification as per the minimum mandatory qualifications Last updated: March 2026 Page 7 of 8 Disclaimer: This document is considered uncontrolled when printed requirement; or hold significant cultural knowledge and experience, lived experience, and/or have faced barriers to educational pathways (note Mandatory Requirements).




- Completion of MARAM Comprehensive Family Violence Specialist Training (preferred).
- Completion of Circle of Security training (preferred).

Key Selection Criteria

- Demonstrated understanding of the dynamics of family violence, including the application of a feminist framework to recognise gendered drivers of violence and the specific impacts on children and young people.
- Demonstrated experience supporting adult and child victim-survivors with complex, intersecting needs, including First Nations families, children with disabilities, neurodivergent children and caregivers. Skilled in inclusive practice with LGBTIQA+, multicultural and multifaith families, and responding to the impacts of homelessness, social and emotional wellbeing and child protection involvement.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in applying case management frameworks and principles within a family violence context, with effective time‑management and organisational skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and well‑developed interpersonal skills. Demonstrated experience preparing high‑quality reports, submissions, and other written documents.
- Proven administrative capability, including accurate data entry, strong attention to detail, and high‑level computer literacy.
- Current Victorian Driver’s Licence.
