Health Promotion Officer – Cancer

Full-time, 38 hours a week - 12 Months, Fixed Term

This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under 'special measures' of Section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.

About the Role

The Health Promotion Officer – Cancer is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating culturally appropriate cancer-related health promotion activities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. The role aims to improve cancer awareness, increase participation in cancer screening programs, and support Aboriginal clients in navigating the healthcare system through their cancer journey

About You

To be successful for this position, you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:

Knowledge and skills

- You are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
- Have experience in health promotion, Aboriginal health, community development, or a related field is desirable.
- A demonstrated knowledge of the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and culture and an understanding of factors that influence their health and wellbeing.
- Understanding of the cancer care continuum and barriers Aboriginal clients may face accessing cancer services.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills,



including experience with group facilitation and community engagement.
- Experience in cancer support, navigation services, or palliative care.
- Knowledge of relevant cancer screening programs and health promotion frameworks
