If you’re ready to take ownership of your projects and have a real say in how work gets delivered, this is a role where your input won’t get lost in layers. You’ll work across a mix of civil and water projects, staying hands‑on with design while influencing outcomes from concept through to completion.
About the role
This is a practical, end-to-end design role. You’ll be involved in everything from early feasibility and planning through to detailed design, documentation and delivery.
Day to day, you’ll be:
- Designing and modelling civil and water infrastructure using tools like 12D, DRAINS and AutoCAD
- Managing your own project workflows, including timelines, budgets and deliverables
- Preparing technical reports, contracts and supporting documentation
- Liaising directly with clients, councils and stakeholders throughout approvals and delivery
- Getting out on site when needed to understand conditions and support project progress
- Supporting junior engineers and contributing to a collaborative team workplace
You’ll work closely with the Engineering Team Lead but have the autonomy to run with your own work.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone who is confident in their technical ability and comfortable taking responsibility for projects.
Must have:
- Around 5+ years’ experience in civil design (ideally within Australia)
- Solid understanding of local development approval processes
- Solid experience with 12D, DRAINS and/or AutoCAD
- Ability to manage projects and communicate clearly with clients and stakeholders
Nice to have:
- CPEng (or working towards it)
- Experience across both civil and water projects
- An interest in mentoring or guiding junior team members
The team and environment
You’ll be part of a close-knit engineering team where people are approachable and get on with the job. The Orange office offers a good balance: enough structure to support you, without unnecessary red tape.
The work is varied, the expectations are clear, and people are trusted to manage their own time and projects. It’s a good fit for someone who prefers a steady, professional environment over big corporate layers.
- Flexible working arrangements that actually work in practice
- Additional leave benefits including birthday leave
- Paid parental leave top-ups
- Study assistance if you want to work towards chartership or further development
- Wellbeing allowance and employee support programs
- Recognition through milestone rewards and referral bonuses
