StandBy Support After Suicide, a program of Youturn, is Australia's leading suicide postvention service, supporting people and communities impacted by suicide through tailored outreach, connection and care.

This fixed-term, part-time position (4 days per week) offers the prospect to create lasting impact across the South-East NSW PHN communities until 30 June 2027. Candidates must live in the Illawarra - Shoalhaven area.

At StandBy Support After Suicide, we believe that connection, compassion and timely support can make a profound difference for people navigating the impact of suicide loss. As an Outreach Worker, you'll play a vital role in providing meaningful support to individuals, families and communities impacted by suicide, while helping to foster hope, healing and resilience across the Shoalhaven and Illawarra region and the SE NSW PHN region

The role of the StandBy Outreach Worker for NSW is responsible for assisting in the delivering of support for people bereaved or impacted by suicide, community engagement, education and training, as well as other events and activities as directed by the StandBy Manager or Coordinator. This position ensures quality delivery of the StandBy program in line with the StandBy Model, providing individual support to those bereaved by suicide, conducting risk assessments, responding to notifications, and supporting community engagement activities across the region.

About the Role

Every person impacted by suicide has a unique journey. As an Outreach Worker, you'll use your experience to provide compassionate support that helps individuals, families and communities navigate grief, find connection and access the support they need.

In this role, you will:

- Provide individual support to people impacted by suicide.
- Facilitate and co-facilitate support groups and community initiatives.
- Build connections with community stakeholders and services.
- Contribute to suicide postvention education, awareness and advocacy activities.
- Support the delivery of evidence-based postvention services that promote healing, hope and recovery.

What We're Looking For

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

- Experience supporting those impacted by suicide bereavement.
- An understanding of, or experience with community engagement or related fields.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to work independently while remaining connected to a supportive team.
- A genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable people with empathy and respect.




- Location & Travel Requirements

This position is dedicated to supporting communities across the Shoalhaven and Illawarra region & SE NSW PHN region and applicants must reside within the Shoalhaven and Illawarra region.

As regular travel is a requirement of the role, the successful candidate must hold:

- A current, unrestricted Driver's Licence
- Own a reliable and insured motor vehicle.

Travel throughout the region will be required and may include occasional overnight stays.
