Support Worker (Casual) — You Bring the Person, We'll Bring the PurposeMost support work ads read like a checklist.
This isn't that.Devoted Abilities is a small crew that pairs people with a disability to support workers who actually get them, same humour, same interests, same energy.
That's the whole game.
When the match is right, the work isn't work.
When it's wrong, everyone feels it.
So we're picky, and proud of it.Here's the truth about this job. Some shifts fly.
Some are slow.
Some are boring.
You'll have days when the biggest win is a good conversation and a properly filled-out care sheet.
If you need constant action to stay engaged, this isn't your role.
If you can find the meaning in the quiet stuff and keep your cool when things get tough, keep reading. What we actually care about:You have a life outside work.
Hobbies, a sport, a craft, a thing that fills your cup.
People who look after themselves don't burn out - and they bring better energy to every shift.
This might be the most important line in this ad.You can regulate your own emotions.
Thick skin, steady head.
You don't take things personally, and you don't unload on the people you support. You've done this before.
Real experience in disability support, ideally community access and mentoring.
Minimum Cert III in Individual Support. You write clean, objective and timely notes.
Every shift ends with a completed care sheet - no exceptions, no "I'll do it tomorrow."You speak the language.
You know the industry terminology,
and you don't need it explained twice. You solve problems.
When the plan falls apart, you think, adapt, and sort it - you don't wait to be rescued. You've got work ethic.
You show up, you follow through, you own your mistakes. What you'll actually do:support people in their daily lives and out in the community - including our flagship Empowered Hoops inclusive basketball program, plus gaming, music, creative projects, and outdoor stuff.
Shared interests with the people you support aren't a nice-to-have here.
It's the point. How we bring you on:slowly and properly.
Week one might be 5 hours.
Week two, 10.
We build from there as the fit proves itself - for you and for us.
Some of our team run big weeks; that's earned over time, not thrown at you on day one. What we would love to see:Experience working with clients who display complex behaviours is a robust advantageComfortable providing personal care support as neededAt least some prior experience supporting people with disability (less than 1 year is acceptable)Strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal abilitiesGenuine dedication to upholding the rights of people with disabilityWorks well as part of a cooperative teamAble to produce clear, accurate progress notes and incident documentationRequired for Compliance:NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willing to obtain within 30 days)Current Police CheckAustralian driver's licence + reliable access to a carPermanent residency in Australia
