Assistant HR Manager – Performance Management & Employee Relations
The Assistant HR Manager – Performance Management & Employee Relations plays a critical role in driving a high-performance culture through effective performance management frameworks, employee engagement initiatives, and proactive management of employee relations matters.
This role ensures all HR practices align with company objectives, local labour laws, and corporate values.
Key Responsibilities
Performance Management
Design, implement, and continuously improve the company's performance management framework.
Coordinate performance review processes, ensuring fairness, transparency, and alignment with business goals.
Partner with managers to set measurable KPIs, provide guidance on feedback delivery, and ensure consistent performance evaluation standards.
Analyse performance data to identify trends, training needs, and succession opportunities.
Support leadership teams in developing performance improvement plans (PIPs) for underperforming employees.
Employee Relations
Act as the main point of contact for employee relations matters, providing professional HR advice to managers and employees.
Conduct and manage workplace investigations, grievances, disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution in a timely and compliant manner.
Advise on employment law, award interpretation, and best practice HR policies to minimise organisational risk.
Foster a culture of open communication, fairness, and accountability across all levels.
Collaborate with legal counsel and external consultants when required to ensure compliance and consistency.
Employee Engagement & Culture
Support the design and execution of employee engagement programs, recognition schemes, and culture-building initiatives.
Provide data-driven insights and reports on engagement, turnover, and employee satisfaction.
Partner with department heads to promote leadership effectiveness and team cohesion.
General HR Support
Contribute to HR policy development and updates to ensure alignment with legislative requirements.
Support HR projects related to organisational development, change management, and workforce planning.
Mentor junior HR staff and share best practices within the HR team.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
Minimum 5 years of HR experience, including at least 3 years focused on performance management and employee relations.
Strong understanding of Australian employment laws and industrial relations frameworks.
Proven experience in managing investigations, grievances, and performance issues independently.
Excellent interpersonal, influencing, and communication skills.
Strong analytical ability and experience using HR metrics to drive decisions.
Ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism and confidentiality.
