Volunteer Prospect with Step into Work: Help Us Make a Difference!
About Us: Step into Work (SIW) runs programs aimed at supporting women to develop the confidence and skills they need to find meaningful employment. We work with under-employed or unemployed women, particularly mothers of young children, who may also be facing other social difficulties ranging from migration, financial, family, or parenting stress. We are a small grassroots organisation, find out more about us at Home - Step Into Work.
The Program: Our programs run over 5 consecutive weekly sessions of 2.5 hours during school terms, delivered in partnership with schools and community organisations that coordinate the registration process and provide the venue. A one-hour introduction session is held the week before the program for interested women to meet the facilitators, get an overview of what’s involved, and ask any questions to help them decide if the program is right for them.
The Role: We are seeking passionate and experienced volunteers to join us in facilitating our Step Into Work programs.
Key Responsibilities:
Facilitation and delivery of group workshops.
Assisting with program logistics and site visits.
Liaison with Schools as Community workers and other 3rd party contacts.
Attending Step Into Work planning meetings twice a year.
About You:
Professional background in one of the following areas is highly desirable: Human Resources or Recruitment; Career Counselling; Coaching; Education; Health Qualified/Counsellor/Psychologist.
Experience in facilitating groups would be ideal.
Ability to deal sensitively with people from a variety of different cultures.
Flexibility! Things can change weekly in our programs.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; high empathy and understanding towards others; ability to motivate and inspire others; organisational skills; collaboration with team members.
Access to a car for travelling to various program sites (e.g., Rockdale, Bankstown, Lakemba, Naremburn, Seaforth, Seven Hills).
Availability to volunteer over 5 consecutive weekly sessions of 2.5 hours during school terms at least once per year, and a one-hour introduction session prior to the program.
Willingness to attend a full program as an observer before taking on a lead facilitator role.
Possession of, or willingness to obtain, a NSW Working With Children Check
