At Aurukun State School (also known as Koolkan Aurukun Community School), we cater to current enrolments of approximately 200 students from Kindy to Year 12.
Our students are active learners who come from a rich cultural and linguistic background.
We are seeking a Deputy Principal - Primary, for the remainder of **** unless otherwise determined.
About Us Aurukun (Koolan) State School, located on the west coast of Cape York, 11 hours drive from Cairns and only 2 hours drive south of Weipa, was opened in **** and remains the only school in Aurukun.

About Living In Aurukun Aurukun is a remote Indigenous community located 11 hours by road from Cairns, and only 2 hours drive south of Weipa on the North West coast of the Cape York Peninsula.
Home to around **** people, this community is the traditional homeland of the Wik, Wik Waya and Kugu people.
The predominant traditional language spoken in Aurukun is Wik Mungkan; this is the first language of most Aurukun children.
Living and working in the remote town of Aurukun, you will have access to the perks the Department offers for temporary teachers and staff employed in rural and remote locations.

About The Role As the Deputy Principal - Primary, you will:



Improve the educational outcomes of students in their schoolDevelop the quality of teaching and learningNurture positive relationships between students, teachers, the community and stakeholders.
The Deputy Principal reports to the school Principal.
Additional Tasks Include (but Are Not Limited To) Work closely with the Principal to successfully develop the quality of teaching and learning by implementing Departmental priorities in teaching and learning, managing human, financial facilities and resources of the school programs to achieve goals.Be futures oriented, strategic, actively participating in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development.Understand the legislation and policies that impact on schooling especially in relation to students and staff within the school department.Deputise for the Principal when required and uphold the Deputy Principalship as a values based, ethical and moral activity.
