Chief of Staff (Adviser 3) - Hon Andrew Gee MP
The office of the Hon Andrew Gee MP is seeking applications for a full-time ongoing Chief of Staff (Personal Employee; Adviser 3) based in the Orange Electorate Office NSW, with regular travel to Canberra during parliamentary sitting weeks and frequent travel throughout the Calare electorate accompanying the Member at meetings, events and stakeholder engagements.
Position Overview
Andrew Gee is the Independent Federal Member for Calare, committed to delivering practical outcomes for the people of regional Australia.
His office works collaboratively with local communities, businesses, councils, community organisations and all levels of government to advocate for the diverse communities across Calare.
The office is focused on responsive constituent service, thoughtful policy engagement and robust representation in the Federal Parliament.
The key duties of the position include but are not limited to:
Strategic Leadership
Work closely with the Member to develop and implement strategic priorities across the electorate and parliamentary responsibilities.
Identify emerging issues, opportunities and risks, providing timely strategic advice.
Coordinate long-term planning and ensure effective delivery of office priorities.
Parliamentary and Policy Advice
Provide high-level advice and support on parliamentary business, legislative processes and policy issues.
Coordinate policy development, briefing materials and submissions.
Support the Member in parliamentary debates, committee work, meetings and negotiations.
Ensure the office remains informed of significant policy and legislative developments.
Communications and Media
Provide strategic oversight of the office's communications and public engagement activities in collaboration with the Media Adviser.
Work closely with the Media Adviser to ensure communications align with the Member's strategic priorities and parliamentary objectives.
Provide strategic advice to the Member ahead of significant media opportunities,



public appearances and major speaking engagements.
Support the coordination of messaging across parliamentary, policy and stakeholder activities.
Leadership and Office Management
Provide strategic leadership across the Electorate and Parliamentary Offices, fostering a positive, respectful and collaborative workplace culture.
Work in partnership with the Office Manager to lead and support the office team.
Lead and oversee recruitment, onboarding, staff development, performance management and broader human resource matters in consultation with the Member.
Promote effective communication, collaboration and information sharing between the Electorate and Parliamentary Offices.
Support workforce planning, professional development and succession planning to ensure a high-performing team.
Ensure compliance with parliamentary policies, office procedures and workplace standards.
Stakeholder and Community Engagement
Build and maintain strong relationships with community leaders, local government, businesses, industry groups and government agencies.
Support strategic engagement across the Calare electorate.
Represent the Member at meetings and events where appropriate.
Other Duties
Attend meetings, community events and official functions with and on behalf of the Member as required.
Undertake other duties necessary to support the effective operation of the office.

A strong understanding of Australia's parliamentary and political systems.




Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience preparing briefs, speeches, reports, policy papers and correspondence.
Strong analytical, negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Outstanding stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
Professional integrity, sound judgement and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
A commitment to providing respectful, responsive and professional service to constituents and stakeholders.
Employment conditions:
The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act **** and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement ******* which include:
A commencing salary between$113,521and$160,043will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.
An additional optional allowance of $35,387 may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work and any travel requirements.
Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).
An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.
Applicants should note the following:
An initial probationary period of three months may apply and may be subject to extension.
The successful applicant may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.
Staff may be subject to automatic cessation triggers in accordance with Section 14 of the MOP(S) Act.
The successful applicant will be required to comply with their obligations under the Behaviour Codes and Standards.
For staff employed by a Minister or Parliamentary Secretary either in a personal or electorate staff position, it is a condition of your employment that you obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 2 security clearance and comply with the Ministerial Staff Code of Conduct.
