THE POSITION
The employer is seeking a General Medicine Career Medical Officer to join a busy General Medicine Department.
The Career Medical Officer will be responsible for providing independent, high-quality medical care, including the assessment, investigation, and initial management of patients across hospital wards and inpatient units. The role may operate on a 7-on, 7-off roster.
Working under the guidance of specialist physicians, the Career Medical Officer will also support and supervise junior medical staff within the General Medicine Department.
This opportunity is perfect for experienced physicians with broad General Medicine experience, including those who have not yet undertaken an RACP specialist assessment. For eligible doctors, the role also provides the chance to undertake RACP peer review within a substantive hospital appointment, supporting progression toward RACP specialist recognition and AHPRA Specialist Registration where applicable.
The hospital is a 119-bed facility, including 100 inpatient beds and 10 dedicated maternity beds. The service supports approximately 19,500 emergency presentations annually, performs around 2,500 surgical procedures, and welcomes approximately 600 births each year.
A 24-hour Emergency Department operates with 15 treatment spaces and is supported by an Intensive Care Unit. Telehealth technology enables access to specialist teams through the NSW Critical Care Advisory Service.
The hospital provides a broad range of acute specialist services delivered by resident and visiting clinicians, including Emergency Medicine, General Medicine, General Surgery, Paediatric Medicine, Oncology, Haematology, Obstetrics, Intensive Care, Respiratory Medicine, Endocrinology, Neurology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Renal Dialysis, and Rheumatology.
The hospital has recently completed a $250 million redevelopment, consolidating major health services under one roof within a purpose-built, three-storey Clinical Services Building designed to support contemporary models of care. The redevelopment also included a Non-Clinical Services Building, demolition of existing structures, and upgraded landscaping and car parking.
