About the Role
As a Family Research Officer with KARI's Genealogy Team, you'll play a critical role in helping Aboriginal children, young people, and families strengthen their connection to culture and identity.
Using your cultural knowledge and research skills,



you'll build comprehensive family trees to confirm Aboriginality, support cultural planning, and contribute to a deeper sense of belonging for future generations.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Conduct family research and produce detailed genograms to support identity and cultural heritage
Support internal and external requests for genealogy services, including fee-for-service
Advise caseworkers and stakeholders on cultural considerations
Engage with communities and build trusted networks
Participate in team supervision, planning, and continuous improvement
Champion KARI's values and advocate for the rights and recognition of Aboriginal people
Requirements
Aboriginality (this is a designated Aboriginal-identified role)
Working With Children Check (Paid Worker)
National Criminal History Check
Skills and Experience
Strong personal connection to Aboriginal culture and community
Sound knowledge of genealogy and family history research
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively and independently
Proficient in Microsoft Office and internet-based research tools
Comfortable liaising with families, service providers and government agencies
