Consultant Paediatrician (Gender Service)

Part time fixed term (0.2FTE from 9th September **** to 12th September ****)
Weekly outpatient clinic - Required work day is Thursday due to room allocations

About the Role:
This is a part-time, Fixed Term maternity leave replacement position for 14 hours per fortnight within the Department of Adolescent Medicine Gender Service team.
You will be responsible for providing high quality, evidence based medical and psychosocial care to children, adolescents and their families, participate in multidisciplinary assessment clinics, provide ongoing medical management and transition patients to adult health services.
This role will contributing to leadership, education and training of community-based services for trans and gender diverse children and adolescents across Victoria and be involved in the clinical evaluation and research activities of the RCH Gender Service.
Classification for this position is in accordance with Award 31 - Fractional Specialists.
What you'll achieve:
Work in partnership with nursing, medical staff, mental health, allied health and administration staff of the RCH Gender Service to provide excellent medical services for patients and families
Participate in the multidisciplinary assessment of children and adolescents presenting with gender dysphoria or other concerns regarding their gender




Liaise with parents/carers regarding procedures and plans for the medical care of their child or young person
Maintain accurate and up to date patient files that record clinical decisions including diagnosis, treatment plans, complications, co-morbidities, procedures performed and reports
Prepare medical reports for a range of stakeholders detailing assessment outcomes and recommendations for treatment and management
Provide education to professionals managing and supporting children and adolescents with gender dysphoria or other concerns regarding their gender within the RCH and in community settings
Participate in service improvements, quality and safety projects and research involving the Gender Service including the RCH Gender Service Clinical Evaluation and the Trans20 project
Your skills and experience:
Current registration as a Medical Practitioner with AHPRA
MBBS or equivalent
Fellowship qualifications with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent
Special knowledge, training and experience in working with trans children and adolescents - desirable
Other requirements:
Current provider number with Medicare to bill for clinical activity
Current ABN registration for Medicare billing activity
About the Department:
The Department of Adolescent Medicine provides healthcare and support to adolescents and their families via a range of specialist multidisciplinary services.
These include the RCH Gender Service, Eating Disorders Service, Chronic Illness Peer Support (ChIPS), Young People's Health Service and the Transition of Care Service, in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
The RCH Gender Service is a Victorian state-wide service providing multidisciplinary care for trans and gender diverse children and adolescents up until their 16th birthday.
The assessment, treatment and support provided by the RCH Gender Service is consistent with the Australian Standards of Care and Treatment Guidelines for trans and gender diverse children and adolescents (v********) and the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, Standards of Care, Version 8.
