Riverina Diabetes and Endocrinology

Wagga Wagga

A growing specialist practice, a team of four, and a role we will shape around the right person.
Riverina Diabetes and Endocrinology is a family-owned specialist practice providing diabetes and endocrinology care to patients across the Riverina. Our team consists of one physician, one nurse practitioner and a practice manager.
Until now we have shared a secretary with another specialist in our rooms. The practice has grown to the point where we need our own, and that is the position we are advertising. You would be the first person to hold it.
The hours
We are open to full-time, part-time or casual arrangements and will adjust the role and the hours to suit the right candidate.
Mon and Thu, generally 8:00am to 5:30pm.
These are our clinic days and are patient-facing.
Tue, Wed and Fri.
Flexible, with hours and start times arranged by agreement. To give a sense of what this might look like, 9:00am to 3:00pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to align with school hours, and either a half day on Friday or no Friday at all. We are genuinely open on this.
If you are working around school hours, study or another commitment, we would encourage you to tell us what you need.
We would also welcome a job share. If you and a colleague would like to split the week between you, please apply together and tell us how you would divide it. We are happy to build the arrangement around two good people.
About the role
You are the face of the practice. You are the first person our patients see when they arrive, the last they speak to on the way out, and the voice they hear when they call. The pace varies through the week: two days are patient-facing and busy,

while the remainder are quieter, with room to work through the administration thoroughly. Our practitioners also consult by telehealth and work at the hospital, so there will be stretches where you are holding the practice on your own.
Your responsibilities will include:
Welcoming patients and attending to them on arrival and departure
Answering phones and email, and responding to enquiries from patients, general practitioners and hospitals
Processing incoming referrals, including loading them into the practice management software and forwarding them for clinical review
Filing clinical results as they are received
Preparing billing for our physician and nurse practitioner across clinic, telehealth, telephone and hospital consultations
Preparing and turning over consulting rooms on clinic days
Actioning tasks from the physician and supporting the practice manager
Managing the appointment diaries of both our physician and our nurse practitioner, and keeping consulting days fully booked, including filling last-minute cancellations
General practice administration
You will receive thorough handover, training and ongoing support from our practice manager.
About you
Previous medical reception experience is preferred but not essential.

If you have developed transferable skills in another setting, such as pharmacy, veterinary practice, allied health, hospital administration, or a busy customer-facing role where accuracy and discretion were important, we would welcome your application.
We are looking for:
Clear, warm communication in person, over the phone and in writing
The ability to juggle competing demands, whether that is a ringing phone, an arriving patient and an urgent email all at once
Genuine attention to detail. In a medical setting, accuracy is particularly critical, and it is important that nothing is overlooked.
Initiative, and the ability to identify what needs doing without waiting to be asked
Confidence working independently, together with the judgement to know when to seek guidance
Sound computer literacy, including confident and efficient typing, and a firm understanding of patient confidentiality
We use Gentu practice management software. Experience with Gentu is an advantage and will see you up to speed sooner, though we are happy to train the right person.
What we offer
Competitive Hrly rate negotiated based on experience.
Full-time, part time, casual or job share, arranged to suit you.
Genuine flexibility three days each week.
A Monday to Friday practice, with no weekend work and no on-call.
On-site parking.
A small team in which your contribution is visible and valued.
The collegiality of a larger suite, as our rooms are shared with other physicians and their secretaries.
A newly created position within a growing practice, with scope to shape how it works.
