Senior Anthropologist - Heritage Consultant
Terra Rosa Consulting has been working closely with Traditional Owners for the last 16 years in Western Australia, Victoria, Queensland, and most recently, South Australia. Our multidisciplinary team specialise in Archaeology and Anthropology services, environmental management, mapping and GIS, and support for Prescribed Body Corporates (PCBs) and Traditional Owner corporations.
About the Role
We're seeking qualified Senior Anthropologists with extensive experience in cultural heritage and ethnographic consultation to join our team at Terra Rosa. We have both Full time and Casual opportunities available.
This is a FIFO/DIDO field- and office-based role with responsibility for leading and conducting ethnographic fieldwork, consulting with Traditional Owners, and preparing anthropological assessments for projects. As a Senior Anthropologist, you will support the mentoring and training of junior staff within the organisation. The role includes extensive travel throughout WA, sometimes possibly the rest of Australia, working closely with Traditional Owners and other stakeholders to carry out heritage assessments, consultations, and reporting in line with legislative and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and conduct ethnographic fieldwork, heritage surveys, on-country assessments, site inspections, and Traditional Owner consultation across a variety of terrains.
Lead, record, and assess sites using industry-standard methodologies.
Draft, review, edit, and finalise high-quality reports, consultation summaries, and documentation.
Plan and deliver heritage assessments in line with project scope and legislation,
ensuring compliance with all relevant legislative standards.
Provide expert advice and feedback to support decision-making and collaborate with executive leadership to improve operational processes, business development, and client partnerships within the heritage portfolio.
Develop and maintain strong communication and relationships with Aboriginal communities, Prescribed Body Corporates (PBCs), proponents, and regulatory authorities.
Collaborate with planners, clients, Proponents, Traditional Owners, internal and external stakeholders to support culturally safe outcomes.
Provide leadership, mentoring, guidance, and on-the-job training to Heritage Consultants during fieldwork and reporting.
Assist in the design and delivery of internal and external training materials.

Selection Criteria
Tertiary qualifications in Anthropology.
Experience working respectfully with Aboriginal communities, including in remote settings.
Respect for Aboriginal cultural protocols and collaborative decision-making.
Strong report writing, research, and documentation skills.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Confidence working in regional/remote areas for up to 2 weeks at a time.
First aid certification and remote fieldwork capability.
Demonstrated understanding of WA heritage legislation.
Experience supporting PBCs, Native Title claims, or joint ventures.
Grant writing or community capacity-building experience.
Familiarity with Microsoft 365 (Planner, SharePoint) and GIS tools.
Experience in Monday.com.
Experience with Float and the Microsoft 365 suite (SharePoint, Planner).
