Riddwood is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our team and contribute to major infrastructure projects shaping the nation's future. In this role, you will work on complex and high-profile projects - including tunnels, bridges, and large-scale civil structures - delivering temporary works solutions such as soil retention systems, slope and settlement assessments, and foundation designs. You will be involved in developing and delivering geotechnical designs that address real-world construction challenges, ensuring safe, efficient, and buildable solutions. If you are an engineer who thrives on seeing designs become reality, enjoys tackling technical problems, and values collaboration within a supportive and experienced team, this is the role for you.
About the Role:
Part of a growing geotechnical engineering team,
this role is suited to an experienced engineer looking to step into a design-focused position with increased responsibility and ownership.
As a
Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer
, you will contribute across the project lifecycle, from fee proposals and design development through to client liaison and working alongside other geotechnical engineers. You will take ownership of your own deliverables, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to a high technical standard. You will take initiative, learn from experiences, and play a key role in shaping your career and enhancing your skills.
Specifically, your role will focus on the
preparation and delivery of geotechnical design packages of varying size and complexity
, particularly for the construction stage of major infrastructure projects such as metro stations and bridges. With construction works often following soon after the design process, you will be required to develop efficient, practical solutions within fast turnaround times to help works continue on site. The role offers a wide variety of work, with no two days the same, and provides the opportunity to broaden your technical knowledge across different project types and design challenges.
You will work within an
experienced and technically strong team
, receiving support and guidance on more complex technical challenges while maintaining ownership of your own deliverables. The role also offers exposure to adjacent structural and civil engineering design interfaces, supported by our experienced structural team. This provides the opportunity to develop a broader understanding of how geotechnical,
structural, and civil design disciplines come together on complex infrastructure projects.
This is a key role within the team, suited to someone who has demonstrated strong technical capability, enjoys variety in their work, and is looking to continue progressing toward Chartered status.
To Be Successful in This Role You Need:
Degree qualifications in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering,
4-6 years' experience in geotechnical engineering Design, 3+ year local experience in Australia.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of Australian Standards, Codes of Practice and construction details.

Ability to deliver high-quality design outputs within short to medium timeframes (a few days to a couple weeks).
Strong report writing, analytical and communication skills.
Ability to provide technical guidance to junior engineers while working effectively within a collaborative team environment.
Working towards or having achieved Chartered status (CPEng or equivalent).
Must hold a current valid full driver license class C and be a confident and competent driver.
Permanent resident or eligible to work full-time in Australia.
Slab on ground or pavement design.
Experience in the preparation of high-quality Bluebeam sketches or AutoCAD drawings.
Experience or understanding of steel/structural design.
