The Queensland Industrial Relations Commission is an independent tribunal and court of record established under the Industrial Relations Act ****. It contributes to the social and economic well-being of people across Queensland by supporting fair, balanced industrial relations and high-quality public services. The Commission's jurisdiction includes industrial disputes, unfair dismissals, workers' compensation appeals, work-related anti-discrimination complaints, public service appeals, and other matters prescribed under various Acts.
Role Description
The Associate to Industrial Commissioner Gazenbeek is a full time, on-site role based in Brisbane City, QLD. The Associate supports the Commissioner by managing case files, preparing draft decisions, orders, and written reasons, and conducting legal and factual research across the Commission's areas of jurisdiction. Day-to-day duties include reviewing submissions and evidence, assisting with listing and case management, coordinating hearing logistics, and ensuring accurate recording and documentation of proceedings. The role involves liaising professionally with parties, legal representatives, and registry staff, maintaining confidential records, and contributing to the timeliness and quality of the Commission's work. The Associate is expected to approach matters with professionalism and integrity.

The ideal applicant will demonstrate the following key attributes as they apply to the key duties of the role:
A genuine interest in industrial relations and employment law and a sound understanding of the work that the Court and Commission does. Applicants that can demonstrate familiarity with key legislation and industrial law jurisprudence will be highly regarded.
Education and personal maturity sufficient to enable the Associate to converse confidently with persons occupying high office in professional and social gatherings.
Sound organisational skills including an appreciation of the need for confidentiality, tact, discretion, initiative and reliability and the ability to manage time efficiently and work harmoniously with others and with minimum supervision.
Well-developed communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills.
Personal resilience and maturity to deal with challenging situations.
High standard of competency and professionalism in office administration including keyboard and word processing skills and the ability to use computer-based file tracking systems.
