Since ****, we've designed and distributed apparel, surf products and accessories that are sold across Australia and international markets.
Built on a rich heritage in surf culture, Rusty has evolved into a multi-category lifestyle brand inspired by youth culture and streetwear while remaining true to the values that built the brand.
As the business continues to grow, we're entering an exciting new chapter, investing in our people, products and brand to build on our momentum and shape the next generation of Rusty.
We are currently looking for a Senior Ladies Designer.
In this role you will be designing and developing the Ladies Apparel and Swim ranges to meet the set creative brief and line plans.
You must meet the highest quality design standards and ensure timely, quality collections are delivered.
This role requires you to use your design skills and flexibility to work with the rest of the design, sales and marketing teams to build excellent product, across multiple categories, that our target market is excited to wear.
What You'll Be Doing
Research global fashion, colour, fabric and lifestyle trends to develop product that fits our customer and brand direction
Design commercially successful Ladies Apparel and Swim collections across multiple product categories
Develop seasonal concepts, prints, colour palettes and trend direction
Create CADs, colourways and presentation boards using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
Manage the end-to-end product development process, including tech packs, garment specifications, sample reviews and fit sessions
Work closely with our Direct-to-Consumer team to develop customer-focused product that is commercially successful
Source fabrics, trims, washes and finishes to achieve customer expectations and target price points
Build and maintain strong relationships with offshore suppliers, managing timelines, development and quality outcomes
Collaborate closely with the Design, Sales and Marketing teams to deliver on brand and customer briefs
Maintain accurate product development records, critical path and seasonal documentation
Regularly conduct market research to ensure ranges stay on trend
Present seasonal ranges at internal reviews and range releases
What We're Looking For
Substantial experience in fashion design — a minimum of 3 years in a similar role
A degree or diploma in Fashion Design
Highly creative and innovative design skills, with a commercial mindset
Demonstrated experience in commercial product development, from concept through to production
Robust knowledge of garment construction, fit and fabrication
Positive, proactive and solutions-focused with a genuine can-do attitude.
Adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities and business needs can evolve quickly.
A person who leads by example, sharing knowledge and mentoring junior team members to support the growth of the wider Design team.
Ability to work collaboratively with the Head of Ladies Design, embracing creative direction while confidently contributing ideas and expertise.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate respectfully and collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
A person who takes ownership of their work, follows through on commitments and contributes positively to achieving shared business goals.
Excellent Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop skills
Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Experience working with offshore suppliers and managing development timelines
An understanding of and genuine passion for the surf, fashion and streetwear industries
Excellent attention to detail, organisational and communication skills
A flexible approach with the ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines
Ability to work harmoniously within a team environment, respecting the views and opinions of others.
