Trainee Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner - U-me Koola
This trainee Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner role will, under workplace supervision, provide support and assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers, delivering flexible, accessible and holistic health care that incorporates a multi-disciplinary, team-oriented care planning approach to meet individual children, young people and their family's needs. The trainee will actively participate in 'on the job and off the job' training requirements to successfully complete the following nationally recognised qualification.
Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act ****, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
About the Team
The Division of Medicine Inpatient Paediatric Unit provides a broad range of complex inpatient care for patients from many paediatric oncology and medical specialties.Patients include, but are not limited to, the specialties of: Oncology, Haematology, Neurosciences, Immunology, Rheumatology, Metabolic medicine and Endocrine.
About the Role
In this role you will deliver quality outcomes for children, young people and families (Leader of Self) in accordance with the Children's Health Queensland Leadership Excellence Framework and the Queensland Public Service and the CHQ values. Your contribution will include:
Apply skills and knowledge from the Certificate III in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care and Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care
(Practice)
in a health care facility ensuring a minimum of 500 hours of vocational placement are achieved.
Actively contribute to improving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health priorities.
Appropriately receive and initiate referrals in accordance with ieMR,



to ensure the systematic and accurate collection of relevant data is collated on a daily basis.
Liaise and communicate with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people and their families.
Empower consumers to make informed health care decisions through consultation, education and information sharing.
Participate and assist develop ongoing health promotion and education sessions with children, young people and their families within both hospital and the communities.
