About the role
Danila Dilba Health Service is seeking a passionate and dedicated Child Health Nurse (CHN) to provide culturally appropriate, family-centred care for children aged 0–5 years and their families. This role focuses on early intervention and supporting families with neurodevelopmental concerns to achieve positive health and developmental outcomes. Working collaboratively with GPs, Allied Health professionals, Family Support Workers, and the broader Primary Health Care team, the CHN will deliver high-quality assessments, care coordination, health education, and ongoing support within a holistic model of care.
Responsibilities:
Work from the Darrandirra Child and Family Centre undertaking a range of child health care coordination activities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families who are 0-5 years of age and registered as a DDHS client.
Complete ASQ Trak/Neurodevelopmental assessments and refer when required.
Actively participate in the delivery of direct clinical care with a focus on children 0-5 years of age.
Provide comprehensive culturally clinical child health services to children and families.
Provide a range of screening, treatment, and education and anticipatory guidance in relation to all aspects of child health.
Appropriate allocation, monitoring and timely follow up of child health recalls.
Working effectively with Family Support workers to engage with clients involving the client’s family / carer as appropriate.
To be successful you will need:
Essential
- Current registration with AHPRA with a minimum of 5 years’ experience.
- Post graduate qualifications in child health.
- Demonstrated experience in working effectively in child health program management and prevention activities with knowledge of the principles of primary health care and program delivery in the primary health care contexts
- Demonstrated the knowledge and understanding of cultural factors and social determinants of health relating to Aboriginal health
Desirable
- Demonstrated experience and competency in working with Communicare.
- Experience in working in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service or similar complex workplace such as service industry or public administration.
- Experience in facilitating programs with internal and external service providers.

What we offer:
- 6 weeks annual leave per annum
- 5 days paid leave during our end of year shut down period (in addition to annual leave).
