As an Oyster Farm Aquaculture Trainee, you'll gain hands-on experience across oyster farming, pearl farming, marine operations, oyster shucking and tourism. Working alongside experienced professionals, you'll develop practical skills both on the water and onshore while helping deliver exceptional visitor experiences.

About Us
Broken Bay Pearl Farm is a working pearl and oyster farm located on the beautiful Hawkesbury River, just an hour north of Sydney (half an hour from Sydney's North Shore). We are passionate about sustainable aquaculture, producing premium Australian Akoya pearls and Sydney Rock Oysters while sharing our story with visitors through immersive tourism experiences.
About the Role
This is a diverse, hands-on role combining aquaculture, marine operations, tourism and guest engagement.
Your responsibilities will include:
Aquaculture & Farm Operations
- Assist with oyster and pearl farming operations.
- Maintain oyster leases, farm infrastructure and equipment.
- Assist with oyster grading, handling and husbandry.
- Support pearl harvest and other seasonal farm activities.
- Maintain vessels, pontoons and marine equipment.
- Follow environmental, biosecurity and workplace safety procedures.
Marine Operations
- Operate commercial vessels in accordance with AMSA requirements.
- Conduct vessel checks and routine maintenance.
- Assist with passenger loading and safety.
- Work confidently on the water in varying conditions.
Tour Guiding & Guest Experience
- Deliver engaging and educational tours.
- Share the story of Australian pearl and oyster farming.
- Create memorable visitor experiences.
- Provide outstanding customer service to guests from Australia and around the world.
Oyster Shucking
- Shuck Sydney Rock Oysters to a consistently high standard.
- Conduct live oyster shucking demonstrations.
- Maintain excellent food safety and hygiene standards.
- Educate guests about oyster farming, pearl farming and oyster appreciation.
Administration & Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate production and operational records.
- Complete daily checklists and maintenance logs.
- Accurately enter farm, inventory and operational data into company systems.
- Assist with stocktakes and inventory management.

Essential Requirements
- Current Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal Certificate of Competency (or close to obtaining).
- Current Driver Licence.
- National Police Check (or willingness to obtain prior to commencement).
- Current First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
- Physically fit and capable of undertaking manual outdoor work.
- Ability to work weekends, public holidays and in varying weather conditions.
