This position supports the practical implementation of horticultural production programs, including land preparation, operating programs, production inputs, machinery use, irrigation, crop protection and harvesting activities.

Key Responsibilities

- Ensure all land preparations are completed in accordance with established procedures.
- Train and monitor operators where required to ensure tasks are completed in line with standard operating procedures.
- Prepare daily, weekly and monthly work programs to facilitate implementation of required production tasks.
- Assess the quality of work and take corrective action where applicable.
- Ensure all material inputs are adequate for the relevant operations.
- Ensure the upkeep of tractors and implements used in production operations.
- Liaise with the Farm Operations Manager, Agronomist and Maintenance Manager where required.
- Operate tractors and implements required for horticultural production.
- Identify and report unusual disease or plant pest signs.
- Operate pressurised irrigation systems.
- Prepare and apply chemicals to control pests,



weeds and diseases in accordance with approved procedures.
- Coordinate horticultural crop harvesting.
- Fumigate soil where required and authorised.
- Manage and install drainage systems.
- Monitor and manage nursery plants.
- Operate spreading and seeding equipment.
- Hand planting seeds (crop specific)
- Machine planting seed/transplants (crop specific)
- Operate harvesting tractor and over-see 6 staff
- Installation of drip Irrigation
- Removal of drip Irrigation
- Irrigation testing/maintenance
- Crop monitoring
- Record keeping- harvesting and planting records for Organic Certification Audits
- Training of any recent staff

Skill & Experience

- Relevant AQF Certificate III or Certificate IV qualifications or
- Equivalent; or 3 years employment experience as a production horticulturalist with relevant formal training; or
- 5 years employment experience as a production horticulturalist with no formal training.
