The Prospect

Our client, a leading national law firm, is seeking an Associate or Senior Associate to join its growing Commonwealth Government Corporate & Commercial practice in Canberra.

This is an exceptional opportunity to advise Australian Government agencies on significant procurement, contracting, and major project matters. You'll work on high-profile government programs spanning capability acquisition, ICT, and complex commercial arrangements, while gaining direct client exposure and working alongside experienced practitioners in a collaborative and supportive team.

The Role

- Advise Australian Government agencies on major projects, procurement, and commercial transactions.




- Provide legal support throughout the procurement lifecycle, from market approach and tender processes through to contract negotiation, execution, and ongoing contract management.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including ICT, goods, and services contracts.
- Advise on contract law, commercial risk, governance, and procurement strategy.
- Work collaboratively with clients and colleagues to deliver practical, commercially focused legal solutions.
- Build strong client relationships while supporting significant government programs and strategic initiatives.

Ideal Candidate

- 2–5 years' post-admission experience in commercial, government, procurement, projects, or ICT law.
- Experience advising on commercial contracts, procurement, or major projects will be highly regarded.
- A strong interest in Australian Government transactions and public sector work.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Commercially minded with strong organisational and stakeholder management abilities.
- Ability and willingness to obtain an AGSVA Baseline Security Clearance (or currently hold one).
