Work Health and Safety - WHS Business Partner

At Uniting, we're committed to creating safer workplaces where our people can thrive. As a Work Health & Safety (WHS) Business Partner, you will play a key role in supporting the implementation of our Work Health and Safety strategic plan across assigned portfolios.

Working in partnership with leaders, managers, teams, and Health and Safety Representatives, you'll provide practical, solutions-focused WHS advice and support that strengthens compliance, enhances risk management, and embeds a proactive safety culture. You'll be instrumental in bringing our Keep U Safe to Thrive safety culture to life while supporting quality service delivery across the organisation.

This is apart-time permanent role (22.8 hours per week across three days), offering flexibility while allowing you to make a genuine impact within a respected not-for-profit health service.

Key Responsibilities

As a WHS Business Partner, you will:

- Partner with leaders, managers, teams, and Health and Safety Representatives to implement and embed WHS strategies, systems, and safe work practices across assigned portfolios.
- Provide expert WHS advice, coaching, and operational support to strengthen legislative compliance, effective risk management, incident reporting, and escalation processes.
- Support hazard identification, risk assessments, and the implementation of practical risk controls in line with the hierarchy of controls.
- Conduct and support WHS audits, inspections, workplace health checks, investigations, and assurance activities, ensuring corrective actions are implemented and monitored.
- Review incidents, near misses, and safety trends to identify root causes, recommend preventative actions, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to the delivery of WHS projects, training programs, awareness campaigns, and capability-building initiatives across the organisation.
- Analyse WHS systems, reporting tools, and safety data to monitor performance, identify trends, support governance, and inform business decisions.
- Build trusted relationships with stakeholders while promoting collaboration and embedding Uniting's Keep U Safe to Thrive positive safety culture.

About You





You are a proactive WHS professional with a practical approach to problem-solving and a genuine passion for creating safer workplaces. You thrive in collaborative environments, enjoy influencing positive change, and are confident providing operational advice across diverse services.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

- Tertiary qualification in Work Health & Safety, Health, or a related discipline, or demonstrated equivalent knowledge and experience.
- Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety (or equivalent).
- 2–4 years' experience in a WHS Coordinator, WHS Advisor, WHS Business Partner, or similar role, ideally within health, aged care, community, or human services.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply WHS legislation, Codes of Practice, and relevant industry standards.
- Experience conducting incident investigations and applying structured problem-solving techniques to develop practical safety solutions.
- Experience in hazard identification, risk assessment, and delivering WHS training.
- Sound understanding and practical application of the hierarchy of controls across varied operational environments.

Desirable Skills & Qualifications

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and preparation of recommendations and briefings.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, influencing, and relationship-building skills.
- Growth mindset with a commitment to continuous learning, adaptability, and improvement.
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to influence without formal authority.
- Experience using WHS systems, reporting tools, and structured governance processes.
- Experience developing and implementing WHS Management Systems.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
