We're seeking an experienced Risk & Compliance Managerto lead and strengthen governance, risk, compliance and workplace safety across a highly regarded independent school. Reporting to the Executive Director – Business Operations, you'll partner with senior leaders, provide strategic advice to the Executive and Board, and ensure the organisation continues to meet its legislative and regulatory obligations.

What's on offer?
- 0.8 FTE ongoing position (5 day work week)
- Immediate commencement (or negotiated start)
- 6 weeks annual leave

Previous education sector experience is not essential.We welcome applicants from other regulated industries who can bring strong governance, compliance and risk management expertise.
About the role
You will oversee the organisation's:
- Enterprise Risk Management Framework
- Compliance framework and regulatory obligations
- Policy and procedure governance
- Internal audits and compliance reviews
- Occupational Health & Safety framework
- Incident management and corrective actions
- Risk reporting to the Executive Leadership Team and Board
- Staff compliance and risk training programs
Working across all business areas, you'll identify emerging risks, develop mitigation strategies, ensure legislative compliance and foster a strong culture of governance and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and maintain enterprise risk and compliance frameworks
- Develop, review and manage organisational policies and procedures
- Conduct compliance reviews and internal audits
- Prepare risk reports and executive-level reporting for leadership and the Board
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and implement required updates
- Manage organisational risk registers and compliance registers
- Coordinate governance and policy review processes
- Oversee workplace health and safety systems and committee activities
- Investigate incidents, identify trends and implement corrective actions
- Deliver compliance and risk training to staff
- Support leaders with risk assessments for projects, events and operational activities
About you
You’ll be a collaborative and proactive professional who enjoys building strong relationships while maintaining robust governance standards.
You’ll ideally bring:
- Demonstrated experience in risk management, governance or compliance
- Experience developing and reviewing policies and procedures
- Experience conducting audits and managing compliance frameworks
- Strong understanding of risk reporting and governance practices
- Experience presenting information to senior leadership and/or Boards
- Excellent written communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Strong organisational skills with exceptional attention to detail
- The ability to work autonomously while partnering across a diverse organisation
Highly regarded
- Experience within education or another highly regulated industry
- Background in construction, infrastructure, government, healthcare or manufacturing
- Formal qualifications in Risk Management, Governance, Compliance, WHS or a related discipline
Mandatory requirements
Applicants must:
- Must hold (or be willing to obtain prior to commencement) a Working with Children Check
- Must hold current First Aid (HLTAID011 or equivalent)and CPRcertification
- Must successfully complete a National Police Checkprior to commencement
- Must be willing to complete Anaphylaxis Training(provided by the organisation)
