Accounts Officer (Accounts Receivable & Payable)
We are a well-established, family-owned distributor of premium wines, spirits and beverages, supplying restaurants and retailers across Australia.
Based in our waterfront office in East Balmain, we're looking for a confident and organised Accounts Officer to join our friendly team.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Finance Manager. It's a combined Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable role covering both sides of the ledger - from reconciling the bank each morning through to preparing supplier payment runs. A key focus of the role is managing collections and staying on top of overdue accounts, so we're after someone who is confident and qualified in following up customers and building strong relationships.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Managing the collections process, following up overdue accounts by phone and email, and building positive, ongoing relationships with customers.
- Managing sales orders on hold, and releasing them once payment has cleared.
- Reconciling daily bank transactions, completed first thing each morning.
- Monitoring cash invoices and card payments, and actioning failed or overdue payments.
- Sending customer statements and "now due" reminders throughout the month.
- Maintaining the doubtful debts report and escalating problem accounts as needed.
- Managing the accounts payable inbox and processing supplier invoices.
- Matching invoices to purchase orders and coding non-stock invoices to the correct accounts.
- Processing customer refunds and employee reimbursements.
- Posting journals and clearing bank items not handled by automation.
- Preparing the weekly and monthly payment runs.
- Supporting the finance team with ad hoc tasks and projects as required.
About You
To be successful in this role you'll have:
- At least 2 years' experience in accounts receivable, credit control or a combined AR/AP role.
- Confidence and resilience in chasing overdue payments and having firm but professional conversations with customers.
- Good numeracy and a solid understanding of invoices, statements, journals and reconciliations.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to manage competing priorities in a busy environment and work both independently and as part of a team.
- A qualification in accounting, bookkeeping or business would be advantageous, but is not essential.
What We Offer
- Beautiful waterfront office in East Balmain.
- Friendly and supportive team environment.
- A varied role with genuine ownership across the full Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable cycle.
- Opportunity to work with some of Australia's leading premium wine and spirits brands.
