Elder Street Early Childhood Centre is a privately owned and operated 39 place long day care centre, located in Lambton, Newcastle, NSW. As part of our commitment to child safety, strict pre-employment screening processes will apply to the successful applicant. Referees will be contacted to assess suitability to work within our service and a Prohibited Persons Register clearance will be conducted.
- Experience of more than 2 years since qualification achieved
- Hold a Diploma in Early Childhood Education
- Hold a current Working with Children Check
- Hold a current First Aid Certificate
- Hold current Asthma and Anaphylaxis training evidence
- Hold a current Certificate of Child Protection (or willingness to obtain)
- Hold a current driver's license
- Strong understanding of Child Safe Standards
Job tasks and responsibilities
- Uphold child safe practices, ensuring children’s safety and wellbeing remain paramount at all times.
- Contribute to the day-to-day operation of the program in collaboration with our children, families and, team.
- Contribute to the educational program for the room including a portion of individual childdevelopment profiles, observations, and reflections, pedagogical documentation of ongoing project work, and contribution to the outdoor program
- Monthly team collaboration curriculum meetings with our team and our Educational Leader during work hours
Skills and experience
The ideal candidate will have more than 3 years of experience in the sector and be able to articulate an understanding and experience of:
- Team collaboration and communication skills
- Team-based leadership and mentorship
- Critical thinking skills
- Why relationships are crucial in our role as teachers
- The EYLF's Principles and Practices and how they relate to children's learning outcomes
- The concept of teachers as learners and a pedagogy of listening
- Sociocultural theoretical perspective in relation to early childhood education and care
- The rights of the child and your subsequent image of the child.
