Benmax is investing heavily in robotics and automation, and we're looking for someone to help lead that charge. Based at our Queanbeyan, NSW workshop, you'll be working with modern robotic welding cells, industrial robots, PLCs and offline simulation tools (Verbotics), with real scope to shape how our workcells are designed, built and run, rather than just keeping legacy kit ticking over. If you want to work on the newest equipment in the shed, not the oldest, and you'd rather be designing and commissioning systems than just maintaining them, this role is built for that.
What You'll Be Doing You'll own the full lifecycle of our robotic welding cells and automated assembly and test systems: drafting workcell layouts in Revit and Inventor, programming robots, PLCs and HMIs, and supporting our transition from manual to automated production. Day to day, that looks like: Drafting and designing robotic welding cell layouts and CAD models, ready for fabrication and installation
Programming industrial robots, PLCs and HMIs, using Verbotics for offline programming and simulation
Leading the transition of manual processes to automated or semi-automated production
Maintaining and improving robotic cells to meet uptime, throughput and quality targets
Troubleshooting faults across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and control systems
Supporting commissioning of current equipment, including FAT and SAT
Training production staff and technicians in safe operation of automated systems Experience What we're looking for: At least 5 years in industrial automation or robotics, ideally in manufacturing
Hands-on experience drafting robotic welding cell layouts and programming industrial robots, PLCs and HMIs
Experience deploying robotic cells or automated lines from design through to steady state production
Robotic arc welding experience (MIG/MAG or TIG) in a production setting is highly regarded
Experience with digital twin or simulation tools is an advantage Skills And Knowledge Working knowledge of industrial robots, PLC programming and CAD drafting in Revit and Inventor
Understanding of automated assembly and test systems, including end of arm tooling and vision systems
Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical and pneumatic systems as they apply to automation Qualifications Trade qualification in electrical, instrumentation, controls, fabrication or welding, or equivalent hands-on experience in a robotic welding cell environment
Bachelor of Engineering (Robotics and Mechatronics), or equivalent (desirable)
PLC and robot programming certification, or demonstrated equivalent experience (desirable) Why Benmax? You'll get real ownership over projects, from the drawing board to the production floor, working with equipment and tools that are genuinely current rather than dated.
