Install Offsider / Labourer — Learn a Trade On the Job
Overnight + interstate work · Sydney-based · No trade qual needed · Real path to becoming a qualified installer $70k–$95k earning range · Paid interstate travel · Private bedroom always · 38hr/wk minimum guaranteed pay · Fast track to your Cert III if you're the right person.
If you want a 7am–3pm labourer job on a house site, this isn't for you. Stop reading.
If you're a hard worker who wants to learn a real trade, can travel, doesn't mind night shifts, and isn't afraid of a 14-hour day when the job needs it — keep reading.
WHO WE ARE
Capital Design Works builds and installs premium gaming-room joinery for clubs, pubs and casinos across NSW, QLD and VIC. 30+ years in the trade. Often copied, never replicated. We design it, manufacture it in our 3,500m² Revesby factory, and install it in venues that can only give us the install window between close and re-open.
Around 60% of our installs run overnight (typical window 10pm to 12pm next day — the famous 14-hour shift). The other 40% are daytime new-builds and refurbs. Interstate runs to QLD and VIC are common. That's the normal pattern of work, not the exception. We're not pretending it's anything else.
WHO WE'RE HIRING
Fit, hard-working offsiders / labourers — no trade qualification required. If you're strong, reliable and want to learn a real trade, this is for you.
You'll thrive here if you've done any of:
•Labourer / TA (trades assistant) on commercial fitouts, exhibitions or shutdowns
•Furniture removals, warehousing, freight, or heavy lifting work
•Shop-fitter offsider — carried panels, protected finishes, held drills
•Site labouring on recent-build fitouts, running loading docks
•Landscaping, concreting, formwork — anywhere physical fitness and grit matter
•Ex-military, ex-farm hand, ex-warehouse — used to being physical all day
You'll hate it here if:
You want a Monday-to-Friday day job with the same start time every day, home by 4pm. Don't apply. We're not the right fit and that's okay.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
•Unloading trucks, staging parts on site in install sequence
•Protecting existing finishes — floor, walls, gaming machines — before we start cutting
•Carrying, lifting, holding panels while the qualified installer sets them
•Site clean-up, rubbish removal, dust extraction, keeping the crew moving
•Basic power-tool work as you learn — drills, screwdrivers, silicone gun
•Overnight venue changeovers (typical window 10pm–12pm next day, 14-hour shifts common)
•Daytime installs on new builds and refurbs
•Interstate runs — NSW / QLD / VIC, 1-day to 5-day stints
•Learning the job from a Leading Hand who's done it 10+ years
FITNESS MATTERS — BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF
This is a physically demanding job. Every day you'll lift 25kg-plus panels overhead, stand or kneel for 12+ hours, work in dusty tight spaces, and finish a 14-hour overnight shift on your feet. You need to be genuinely fit — not just "okay" — and you need to be honest about that on day one.
•Lifting: comfortable moving 25kg repeatedly, 50kg with a mate
•Standing / kneeling: 12+ hours per shift on concrete floors
•Awkward postures: reaching overhead, working under gaming bases, low crawl spaces
•Stairs / ramps: often no lift access, carrying panels long distances.
•Overnight endurance: 14-hour shifts, then travel home the next day
We don't test your fitness at interview. We trust you know your body. But if you can't do a solid day of hard physical work, this job will chew you up in a week — better to know now than three months in.
WHAT WE PAY — AND WE'LL PUT IT IN WRITING
Hourly structure
•$32/hr base + 30% night loading (10pm–5am) = $41.60/hr nights
•Overtime hrs 9-10: $48/hr (1.5x base)
•Overtime hrs 11+: $64/hr (2.0x base)
•Saturdays +50%, Sundays +100%, public holidays +150%
•$32/wk tool allowance + $20/shift night meal allowance
Real-world earnings examples
•Single 14hr overnight shift: ~$700 + meal allowance
•Standard week (2 × 14hr nights + 1 × 10hr day): ~$1,850
•Realistic earnings: $70k–$95k depending on nights/interstate mix
•38hr/wk minimum hours guaranteed even in dry weeks (filled with factory work, protection prep, training)
LEARN A TRADE — WE FUND YOUR CERT III
This isn't a dead-end labourer job. If you last 12 months and the Leading Hand rates you 8/10 or better, we'll pay for your Cert III in Cabinet Making through an approved RTO. You keep working, we cover the fees,
and once you finish you move to the qualified installer rate ($45/hr + loadings = $120k–$150k OTE).
Career path: Offsider → Qualified Installer → Senior Installer → Leading Hand → State Lead. We're opening QLD and VIC depots over the next 18 months.
INTERSTATE PACKAGE

•White Card (General Construction Induction) — or willing to get one before you start (we'll help)
•Driver's licence
•Australian working rights
•Willingness to travel interstate and work overnight as the normal pattern of work
•Show up on time, every time. Take direction. Learn fast.
Nice to have but not required:
•Any construction, joinery, warehousing or removalist background

HOW TO APPLY
Send your CV and answer ONE question:
"Tell me about the hardest day of physical work you've ever done — and what made you finish it."
Two sentences. No essay. We're looking for how you think, not how you write.
