Specialist Domestic Family & Sexual Violence Support Worker (DFSV) BEGA

Southern Women’s Group (SWG) Inc is a not-for-profit community service based on the South Coast of NSW. We are a feminist-based organisation, and our vision is to ensure that all women are safe, respected, empowered and supported to flourish.

SWG Inc provides auspice for the Women’s Resource Centre (WRC) in Bega, through funding from the Department of Communities & Justice (DCJ). It also provides auspice for the South Coast Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service (SCWDVCAS) through NSW Legal Aid. It is the Court Advocacy Service for the Eden, Bega, Moruya, Batemans Bay, Nowra and Milton Local Courts. Our highly skilled and professional staff provide trauma-informed, client centred and culturally safe support to clients.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Women’s Resource Centre (WRC) is often the first point of contact for women in the Bega Valley experiencing domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV).

Applicants must have a commitment to empowering women and children affected by DFSV, an understanding or willingness to learn the principles of a trauma-informed approach to service delivery, have a demonstrated ability to engage effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds and have a demonstrated ability to engage effectively with clients in crisis.

The role of the Specialist Domestic Family & Sexual Violence Support Worker includes,



but is not limited to the following duties;

Provide information, advocacy, referral, and support services to women accessing the WRC for DFSV, ensuring a responsive and person-centred approach.

Conduct risk assessments, safety planning, and engage in helping conversations around the safety and well-being of victim-survivors.

Offer telephone and front counter information intake, screening, identification, and triage functions to effectively respond to the needs of clients.

Where needed coordinate services and advocate on behalf of women not eligible for or on waitlists for other services, ensuring they receive the necessary support and assistance.

Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders, including law enforcement, legal services, housing services, Centrelink, court support, victim support services, and child protection services, to ensure seamless and accessible support for victim-survivors.

Attend relevant networking groups.

Selection Criteria





- Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline (such as social work, community services).
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the dynamics, complexities, legal and social welfare consequences of domestic and family violence and an understanding of the related effects of DV trauma.
- Demonstrated understanding of the criminal justice response to DFV including ADVO applications and criminal prosecutions and related legal matters.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding in providing quality advocacy to a diverse range of community members e.g. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, LGBTQIA+ people, and also socio-economically disadvantaged groups.
- Demonstrated ability to work flexibly, collaboratively and effectively with a multi-disciplinary team and with external stakeholders, including high level networking skills.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with key stakeholders in the local area.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver services in accordance with the DCJ Funding Agreement, organisational policy and procedure and relevant legislation.
- Excellent communication skills, in particular, high-level skills in negotiation, advocacy, conflict resolution and general interpersonal communication. Very positive level of writing skills.
- Proof of valid driver’s license, a Working with Children Check
- Willingness to obtain National Police Records Check.
