Lecturer/Senior Lecturer - Laboratory Medicine (Genomics and Bioinformatics)

Salary range: $117,100 - $164,207 pa + 17% Super

- Based in the School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences at the City East Campus
- Full-time, continuing position

Workthat matters

This academic opportunity will play a key role in strengthening the University's Laboratory Medicine program through excellence in teaching, research and engagement. As a Teaching and Research academic, you will contribute to the delivery and leadership of a contemporary curriculum while helping to expand the School's research capability in genomics, bioinformatics and molecular diagnostics.

You will lead and contribute to teaching in Genetics for Laboratory Medicine and the newly developed Genomics and Bioinformatics, supporting the continued evolution of the Laboratory Medicine Honours program. These courses are integral to preparing graduates for modern diagnostic practice and ensuring the program remains current, industry-relevant and aligned with accreditation requirements, including those of SA Pathology and the Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists (AIMS). The role may also contribute to teaching across the Laboratory Medicine Honours program and selected courses within Nursing and Midwifery, including Fetal and Maternal Pathophysiology.

Reporting to the Head of School, you will become part of a collaborative team of educators and researchers committed to delivering an outstanding student experience while advancing research that addresses contemporary challenges in healthcare and diagnostic science.

Working alongside colleagues across Laboratory Medicine, Nursing and Midwifery and with external partners such as SA Pathology, you will contribute to teaching excellence, curriculum innovation, research collaboration and industry engagement that ensures our programs continue to meet the evolving needs of the profession.

Qualifications

- A PhD in genomics, bioinformatics, molecular biology, molecular genetics, laboratory medicine, medical science, biomedical science or a closely related discipline.

Experience

Level B

- Demonstrated research capability in genomics, bioinformatics, molecular diagnostics, precision medicine or a related field, with experience analysing and interpreting complex biological or genomic data.
- An emerging research profile, evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, research collaborations, conference presentations and/or competitive research funding.
- Experience designing and delivering engaging, evidence-based teaching in genomics,



bioinformatics, molecular diagnostics or related disciplines.
- A commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment and contributing positively to interdisciplinary teaching, research and engagement activities.

Level C

- Demonstrated expertise in genomics, bioinformatics, molecular diagnostics, precision medicine or a related field, supported by an established research profile and recognised contributions to the discipline.
- Proven success in securing competitive research funding and leading an independent or collaborative research program.
- Extensive experience in teaching, course coordination and curriculum innovation across genomics, bioinformatics, laboratory medicine or related disciplines, including the development of contemporary learning experiences.
- A successful record of supervising Honours and Higher Degree by Research candidates and developing research capability in others.
- Demonstrated academic leadership, strong industry and external stakeholder engagement, and experience mentoring colleagues while contributing to program development, governance and quality assurance.
