Accounting and Finance | Payroll and Finance Operations

Sydney | $150,000 to $170,000 plus superannuation

A specialist labour hire and industrial services business, supplying contract and casual workers into logistics, warehousing and manufacturing sites across Australia, is appointing a Financial Controller into a newly created role. The role has been built deliberately to give senior leadership room for more strategic work.

The business operates a multi-entity structure with payroll at the centre of its commercial model, processing high-volume, shift-based payments across a workforce that moves constantly between sites, awards and entities.

The Role

- Owns payroll control and compliance end to end, across multiple legal entities and award structures
- Manages the compliance timetable for a high volume, shift based workforce, ensuring accuracy and timely payment at scale
- Leads and develops the local payroll team directly, including workload planning and quality control of outputs
- Prepares management accounts, supports statutory and tax reporting, and works closely with external advisors where required
- Acts as the senior finance presence in the Sydney office, partnering directly with two senior leaders on day to day operations
- Reviews and improves payroll and finance systems and processes, with a genuine mandate to change how things are done
- Builds relationships across operations,



workforce and leadership functions independently, without a large team around them
- Contributes to commercial analysis and reporting as the function and the role grow, including future systems or process transformation work

Background Required

- Strong payroll experience handling significant volume, with the ability to review, control and manage compliance timetables rather than focusing solely on processing
- A broad accounting and finance base spanning tax, statutory reporting and management accounts
- Experience inside a business of a similar scale, ideally 50 to 100 people, preferably in a services or high volume casual and contract workforce setting (labour hire, hospitality, retail, logistics)
- Comfortable operating as a self driven, service oriented senior finance presence, accustomed to building relationships across the business independently
- Big 4 or mid tier trained accounting background (Private Clients or Business Services)well suited, provided there is also commercial or in house exposure. A career built purely in audit is unlikely to be the right fit
